This doesn't take into account all the people those 270,000 supported with spending
271,000 people have lost their jobs and federal spending has ctually increased. So people get less services, while we added debt paying for private jets for Kristi Noem, bulletproof cars for Kash Patel. This is what the rust belt voters demanded.

this just has me thinking about how so much of this government and the movement around it is purely a matter of aesthetics. is there a strategic reason for produce a new warship? maybe. but my hunch is that this is happening because the president thinks it will look cool.

This is true of lots of reporters, but it more reflects the limited resources daily journalists have and pressure to publish 5 seconds before the TV station than the actual skill or care of the journalist.
Sometimes I wonder: are reporters so lazy that they think, "oh, I'll just pick up the phone to this person who emailed me" instead of, "I think I'll do a bit of digging on who the best expert would be here," and I guess I've gotten my answer 🙄

Can’t stop thinking about this. The Trump administration is essentially extorting hospitals into dropping gender-affirming care—without Medicare or Medicaid they’d go bankrupt. It’s akin to a backdoor ban even for people with private insurance, a proposal that wouldn’t pass Congress.
Under the proposed rule issued by the Trump Administration today, any Medicare- or Medicaid-participating hospital would be barred from providing gender-affirming care to *any child*, even if the care is not paid for by Medicare or Medicaid.

this is the unspoken but absolutely clear argument at hand.
That’s the thing man. If they are to be taken at their word the only takeaway is that there should be no black people in any job any other white person wants. One quick Google search for any of these jobs would show there are usually one or two minorities are best in a unit of 20 or 30 or more.
UAlbany, one of those, NY state universities, has been hovering around 4 percent tenure track Black faculty since ever. I am THE Black tenure track political scientists. These folks are just little liars.

This is a very good point that I feel like I lose sight of as someone Terminally Online and Political
if you are a trans teen right now, you do not have the lifetime of experience with the united states federal legislative branch to cope with “this will *probably* die in the senate” on top of the rest of your life and that right there feels like a fucking flavor of abuse at scale.
I haven't been in the pediatric trans healthcare system since 2019 and I can barely look at these headlines without wanting to puke.
Can't imagine the fucking damage this is doing to trans kids today.
