He/Him. Novel THE SWORD TRIUMPHANT out May '25. Currently writing: Black Iron 4, Unannounced Novel, Merryshire Detective Club, Terraforming Mars rpg, Across the Abyss other stuff.
Pinned
Gar's novels - a thread.
First, we've got the Black Iron Legacy series, starting with THE GUTTER PRAYER.

Three thieves - runaway Carillon Thay, slowly petrifying Spar, and corpse-eating ghoul-monster Rat - get embroiled in a web of intrigue and sorcery. Crazed gods, alchemy-punk, high weirdness.

save jester
if elon just hired an Inverse Jester (guy hired to listen to his jokes and pretend they're funny) we could solve every problem except how to keep the inverse jester from killing himself

Thanks to a print buying wonderworking from @catthm.bsky.social, the @pelgranepress.bsky.social booth at Dragonmeet this weekend will have a surprise advance edition of a game very near to my heart. Be sure to leave extra room in your backpack.

Thinking of making a horror movie about a man who keeps discovering 12-inch rulers in his home. It's a found footage film.

13th Age 1e was already in my top 3 all-time favorite TTRPGs, solidly in the D&D family tree and supporting the kind of play experience I always wanted from that game. I expected 2e to improve on 1e, but I did NOT expect it to blow me away by how much better it is. I’m so excited to play it.
Starting a reaction thread on 13th Age 2E.

First, this is gorgeous edition, and it seems like a great upgrade and refinement of what already a really fun, smooth running game. /1

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

Interesting comparison here of A.I. to the textile industry. Maybe we need “slow information”.

This morning’s AI spam included the leader of a “crew of 2000 ex-schoolmate” readers shouting about how one of my books only had 29 reviews - when he was referring only to the Spanish version - and another spam offering to promote an obscure RPG supplement that I didn’t actually write.

I think one of the hardest things about being a career writer in traditional publishing is that writing attracts the neurodivergent brain while the variable reinforcement schedule punishes it. We are all the rat at the water bottle, waiting for the hit of cocaine. You get one win, and you need MORE.

I’m now even more terrified by the concept of very grumpy fae chafing at the indignity of having been bound as Intellectual Property and are kept by a fourth generation of the person who enslaved them.

Yeah, Walt Disney as one who bound fae to his control is an idea that sorta resonates ugly, hm?

Gah, the worst thing about having a good idea at 9.05AM is that you feel you’ve already achieved something and can take it easy for the rest of the day.
