For some reason, Ryan Reynolds mailed out a weird marketing letter disguised as a holiday card with a scrap of wrapping paper and a drawing showing how to crumple it into a ball, put a bow on it, and throw it away. I can't think of anything more "dead end of Western Civilization" than that.
