Disgraceful news: the 2026 Adelaide Writers' Festival Board is disinviting a writer because she is of Palestinian heritage. Another arts org trashes its reputation & makes other people pay for its decision. The choice for other invitees & people with tickets is very unfair. And very clear.

As a former Director of Adelaide Writers' Week I am appalled that the Adelaide Festival Board has rescinded Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah's invitation to the 2026 AWW, explicitly linking its decision to the shattering crimes in Bondi.

Am I right in thinking Australia's conservatives / racists / bigots etc are pushing hard for this because they want several weeks of persistent bad publicity for the Albanese gov't + a platform for hate and racism feeding an anti-immigration media frenzy?

Incredible how quickly Trump's insane criminality, now playing out in Venezuela, is transformed by 'serious people' into an 'oh well', like it's justifiable to invade other countries and kidnap their leaders. If our govt offers anything but outright condemnation, we have lost the plot.
