It would be practically and legally impossible to hold a royal commission that goes anywhere near the actions or motivations of the accused killer, before his criminal proceedings are concluded, which could take years. That limitation would render the royal commission itself pointlessly premature.

Surely, if this is a real celebration and not another manic ritual of brutal distraction, we would create a reprieve from burning? Surely the sky is desperate for silence, or else the hard and beautiful work of birds? Once, we could see the stars unaided, the perfect light of memory, and now we have only this snap, crackle, pop. You will not believe me, child, but once we could see the stars, and it was glorious.

When quizzed about it, the premier flagged that arming CSG NSW would also be considered. "Now that means a root and branch change to security protocols and provisions in place. "It also means we need to have a longer, deeper look at arming CSG.
