Media is starting to report the Grok child porn story but way too many are centering the bot's "apologies" and "admissions" without explaining that these are being generated in response to user requests and are not in anyway authentic or meaningful.

This is the thing.

At any point when writing about Grok or any other LLM, you can replace the name of the LLM with "the computer" without any loss in meaning.

If you would not write "the computer apologized", then you should not write "Grok apologized".
Saying "Grok apologized" is like saying "my phone predictive text chose words that look like apology."

shit like this is the core of the damage the social internet has done to us

we have replaced actual expertise with "some dude with a podcast who makes you feel like his buddy while he bullshits into a microphone" and now a ton of people think that measles and chicken pox are the same
Yeah, this dum dum is talking about chicken pox.

Anyway, it's very cool and awesome that he has so much cultural and political influence.

Sad and predictable but also interesting and revealing to see the angry reaction from the populist right to the King's Speech. They're reading it as a call for tolerance of diversity, approval for multi-faith, multi-cultural UK, and supportive of Ukraine. Which I think it was & intentionally so. 1/3

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Ah the 1970s.

Stagflation, three day weeks, collapsing infrastructure. Civil War in Northern Ireland. In yer face racism and bigotry everywhere. Bin strikes. Strikes in general. Blackouts. Industrial decline. Wage inequality. Dog crap everywhere. And households spent 25% of their income on food.

1. This does not target the UK

2. This is clear evidence of being inside a customs union rather than floating alone

3. It was inevitable that Trump's actions at the head of such a large economy would result in dumping elsewhere.. Europe has to be able to take action to counter that.

Is there a reason I ask that the Times are using a picture of asylum seekers in a boat to describe rules for migrants who came on legal routes such as skilled worker visas for doctors?
Tough new conditions to be imposed on migrants who want to settle in the UK will not apply to more than a million people who arrived in the UK under the post-Brexit immigration surge
Labour’s tough new rules will not apply to migrants already in UK

- Sadiq Khan is not introducing Sharia law in the UK
- We do not have a massive free speech problem here.
- Britain is not on the verge of civil war.
These are not controversial subjects or contested, they're just not true.
