"Under this model, formerly colonized nations must ask permission to temporarily access their own heritage, accept conditions dictated by a British institution, and bear the financial and logistical burdens of care, while the museum retains ultimate control."

British Museum Launches Farcical “Decolonizing” Loan Program
Long-term loans to former colonies are not restitution. They do not acknowledge historical wrongdoing, nor do they restore agency to source communities.

“The Supreme Court decided not to have a Christmas party for 12 straight years because the justices couldn’t agree on whether to invite the Court’s Black employees” is about as tidy an encapsulation of the Supreme Court’s whole deal as I can think of
The Alarmingly Racist History of the Supreme Court’s Canceled 1947 Christmas Party
The Court held its first-ever office Christmas party in 1946. The following year, the clerks suggested inviting Black employees. It did not go over well.

It's unfair to call me part of the Epstein Class says the guy in the Epstein files.
People are not upset because they think every single member of the American elite is a mass rapist. They're upset because elites downplay and excuse mass rape while obscuring their ties to the rapists — *precisely the thing Brooks did in his column.*

O'Callaghan and Fianna Fáil are aligning themselves with the absolute worst people and politics in Europe, and journalists need to start asking them about it.
To date, I have seen little evidence that Irish media is prepared to meet this moment, and I fear the worst.
Liam Herrick: Why has Ireland abruptly decided the European Convention on Human Rights goes too far?
Precedent could have far-reaching consequences. Who is to say the rights of gay citizens won’t be the next target by a coalition of hostile states?

Which views the BBC considers unacceptably political in its presenters is particularly telling, isn't it?
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

It has taken Patrick's ma nearly 6 decades to get an apology from the State for the murder of her child. They don't class it as murder and no one who ordered this or took part in it has, or will be prosecuted. Patrick's mother is 88 and was too ill to hear the apology

In Aug 1969 the Royal Ulster Constabulary sent 3 armoured vehicles into the mostly catholic Divis Flats. They opened fire on 13 homes there with heavy-duty vehicle-mounted machine guns. Patrick's mother took her kids to the back of her flat to protect them, Patrick was killed in front of his family.
The PSNI has apologised to the family of Patrick Rooney, the first child killed in the Troubles.

The family will also receive "significant compensation," the High Court in Belfast heard this morning.

Collusion is a web of acts of both commission and omission that are extremely unlikely to be actively documented by the state committing them. The kinds of headlines we are seeing in some press today rub salt in the wounds of those who suffered through collusion.
I would recommend anyone read the Kenova Report published today, especially ps 123-4 in context of the headlines stating there is no evidence of collusion between the British state and loyalist paramilitaries.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

Outraged to learn that an Irish Times journalist would basically make shit up.

Shocked and outraged.
Harry McGee, on the IT politics podcast, just asserted that the recent drones seen around Zelenskyy’s visit were military grade weapons launched from within the Irish state by foreign agents. There’s no evidence for any of this, it’s absolutely unhinged.
