The Government asked this Court to stay the District Court's order. After the response and reply were filed, JUSTICE BARRETT referred the application to the Court. We directed the parties to file supplemental letter briefs on an issue that the District Court had addressed but the parties' initial briefs had not: the meaning of the term "regular forces" in §12406(3). In its supplemental brief, the Government argues that the term refers to civilian law enforcement officers, such as those employed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement or the Federal Protective Service. Respondents, echoing the District Court, maintain that the term refers to the regular forces of the United States mili-tary. We conclude that the term "regular forces" in §12406(3) likely refers to the regular forces of the United States mili-tary. This interpretation means that to call the Guard into active federal service under §12406(3), the President must be "unable" with the regular military "to execute the laws of the United States." Because the statute requires an assessment of the military's ability to execute the laws, it likely applies only where the military could legally execute the laws. Such circumstances are exceptional: Under the Posse Comitatus Act, the military is prohibited from "execut[ing] the laws" "except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress." 18 U. S. C. §1385. So before the President can federalize the Guard under §12406(3), he likely must have statutory or constitutional authority to execute the laws with the regular military and must be "unable" with those forces to perform that function.

While we can all support the end to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the Protect Childrens Innocence Act, we cannot fully support this bill that passed the US House of Representatives yesterday because it criminalizes medical professionals for prescribing medication to trans youth.

However, not everyone in this world identifies with the way they were born. If that happens early enough to a person in childhood, it is important that that child NOT go through the puberty they might naturally have gone through. The important thing is that Americans have agency over their own bodies. Because gender dysphoria - believing that one is born with the wrong sex - can be so devastating, it is imperative that these children not be forced to cope with natural sex hormones but wait until they are ready. To deprive them of the delayed puberty is to potentially invite depression & other mental health issues into their lives. Disasterously, this Republican-backed bill aims to punish doctors who provide the children with the treatment they need until they can make bodily decisions for themselves. "These medical and mental health treatments, commonly referred to as gender-affirming medical care, are supported by the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics." But Republicans don't want anyone but white, Christian adult males to have freedom over their own bodies - not children (they support child marriage & dragged their feet over the Epstein files), not women (they voted against the Women's Health Protection Act), not immigrants whom they kidnap from the streets, & not the disabled, many of whom will lose Medicaid & SNAP benefits this year, etc. due to Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act. And our own US Representative, multimillionaire John Joyce, is a part of that, having voted to take away any possibility of bodily autonomy from people who know their bodies best. Please vote him out of office next November & vote me in instead because I not only #ChooseDemocracy, I choose real Reproductive Freedom which includes gender-affirming care.
