Living in York, is a great place to reflect on what it means to be 'British'. Founded in 71AD by the Roman Empire, Eboracum was such an important city that two Roman Emperors happened to be here when they died. The multangular tower is largely of Roman construction. @VisitYork

An excellent, clear-eyed FT weekend essay by @stephenkb.bsky.social setting out the choices confronting governments on immigration: on.ft.com/3IxIcvo
The truth about immigration
Ageing societies seeking to preserve living standards will continue to rely on new arrivals — but governments can be clearer about the trade-offs

Just googled the source of those statistics and the source seems to be the “centre for migration control” which is far right substack.

Even if we assume it’s not complete bullshit, when you read the post making those claims you see they’re mixing up “foreign born” and “foreign national” (again).

I’m not saying “pivot to video” I’m saying maybe this is meant to be a smaller app for the smaller audience that likes this format and Bluesky should be a company that finds a path to continued existence that doesn’t require “unicorn growth” — tech has to wean itself off needing 100x to live

#econsky What do we know about “Artificial Intelligence, Scientific Discovery, and Product Innovation” and about MIT's investigation of this paper, which apparently led to expulsion of its author? And what should we change in response. /1

🧵 / The 2025 local elections in historical perspective

Reform's gains were undeniably seismic, shaking the party system to its core and central to a level of turnover unseen in any post-reform local elections. The net partisan churn is 54%, approaching double 1981's 30%.

Btw for anyone saying AI can replace engineers or will replace engineers soon.

If it could, this person would have aced their full-remote job! Instead, they struggled when it came to getting stuff done.

Food for thought on what this actually means in where we are

bsky.app/profile/nino...
Doesn't that show how disconnected the technical interview is from the reality of work? (And also how delusional people that said AI can replace engineers are?)
