Yeah: the angle I'm taking for analysis for Silent Hill F is basically: Silent Hill F uses Inari faith, fox lore for horror (& gender norms etc) but if your only exposure to Shinto etc was through religious horror, it's going to be distorted. But I like grounding the analysis ^^
flowerstorm.tech
(Specifically looking up depictions of Shinto or Buddhism but for Western audience consumption here, or something talking about how frequent a Christian analysis is) #AcademicSky #HorrorSky

Does #HorrorSky or #AcademicSky know of any studies relating to religious horror and depictions of religions NOT Christianity?

Elon Musk said he was going to cut spending by $2 trillion dollars, but instead spending is higher this year than we thought it would be before Trump took office. Truly incredible stuff.

CBO fy2025 projections for deficit/spending/etc are out

Some issues make simple comparisons apples-to-oranges, so I'll do apples-to-apples & explain in the thread

Relative to pre-Trump projections:
-Primary deficits ⬆️ $34 bn
-program spending ⬆️ $97 bn
-revenues ⬆️ $63 bn

2025 (January estimate, adjusted to fix issues)	2025 CBO estimate (remove student loan one-time revaluation) 2025 (adjusted for student loans) vs. 2025 projection (adjusted to fix issues)
Spending	7061	7166 105
Program spending	6108	6205 97
Interest	953	961 9
Revenue	5163	5226 63

As someone who LOVED Sagas of Sundry (and it introduced me to Dread)... well, yeah. I'm glad to notice this post.
lordvonbarron.bsky.social
Many years ago I did a show called Sagas of Sundry.

It was immersive horror, great storytelling, and reality show style skill challenges.

Now I want to bring it back, but call it Tales of Dread.

But I need your help. So I'm taking this project to Kickstarter.

You would not believe how many stories like this have been popping up over the last ~5 years

Not just full games cancelled—entire characters and plot lines removed or changed, leaving less time for making the *rest of the game better*, to try avoiding a small and malicious contingent of voices.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Years ago, a subscription drive was what resulted in my epic livetweet of Clavell's "Shogun." Now, I'm doing it again. 100 subs (12 more than what I have now) at buff.ly/R3YnYhq and I will livepost my read of Christopher Nicole's "Lord of the Golden Fan," which was Shogun before Shogun.

Ahhh, I'm more the "nonbinary and fluid partly because I wear wigs for another medical condition" and that's a whole other can o' worms. But also - yo! Nice to meet you? Again? Something?
flowerstorm.tech
You both are pretty cool, tbh. (I'm nonbinary so not sure if that counts for the ask)

Want to understand why users have lost faith in Bluesky's leadership?

Or what the deal with waffles was about?

Or why users are up in arms about a beloved activist and community builder was banned for criticizing Bluesky's CEO?
nicomaramckay.com
tl;dr: Bluesky began with genuine promise: a new social media platform where users could feel safer, but inconsistent moderation quickly eroded trust.

When systemically marginalized users pushed back, Bluesky’s leadership minimized concerns and began to target them for bans.

Palantir has pulled out of involvement with the UK Digital ID card, according to an interview with their UK CEO on Times Radio. They’re concerned about the reputational damage of being involved with an unpopular Starmer policy.

No worries it’s a lot to keep track of 😮‍💨
Meta platforms, Tumblr, Reddit and TwiX all directly harvest into their respective genAI services. Bluesky, Masto and Cara don’t, but do get scraped.

And then TwiX is the worst of them because Grok directly allows for genAI remixing of your art by everyone.

I don't think every day people should need Linux sysadmin skills to form communities or have freedoms online.

credible exit and low-friction switching costs are important and necessary properties that underwrite a lot of this. so is strong individual control of individual identity.
