Just watched NOW YOU SEE ME which I found structurally infuriating on pretty much every level. Did not work at all, left me wanting to take an angry red pen to the script and write SEE ME AFTER CLASS.

You guys it is possible for antisemitism to be a real and rising issue *and* for people to be racist/Islamophobic against Mamdani. It’s not an either/or. Please stop dismissing the very credible threat of antisemitism because some people who raise the issue suck.

This is repulsive. I will never buy another donut from or shop at the Other Side thrift again. People have all sorts of reasons they don't seek help when homeless. Stripping them of their basic autonomy (for minimum 30 days!?) won't solve most of them & is morally repugnant. Also, suggesting
The Other Side Academy wasn’t the only organization to suggest detaining homeless Utahns against their will.
Devon Kurtz, presenting on behalf of conservative think tank the Cicero Institute, also pitched boosting what’s referred to among government officials as “civil commitment.”
Utah’s planned mega-shelter should be like a jail for homeless people, one widely embraced group says
The Other Side Academy executive Joseph Grenny told lawmakers that homeless Utahns who commit petty crimes — like camping in public — should be forced into the state’s proposed mega-shelter against their will if they refuse to accept help.

This quote is from an Op-Ed that ran in the Washington Post. Which is owned by Jeff Bezos. Who depended on a 250k check from his parents back east to start Amazon. Also the 600 MILLION in tax breaks & the cost of social services his employees depend on which Seattle residents were forced to bear.
You guys realize that taxing people to pay for services isn't socialism, right? This is just how governments work.

*Life* is a right, therefore anything required to support it is also a right & should be guaranteed to those who don't have it regardless of the reason. That includes healthcare, of course, but also food, housing, clothing etc. Guaranteed means not relying on charity or individual generosity for it.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Absolutely correct. So much of the discourse around restoring trust in the institutions is focused on decorum and civility theater. But why would anyone trust the institutions if, after the horror show that we are suffering through, they yet again fail to impose some measure of real accountability?
Something the US needs to accept too is that without a large-scale correction imposing consequences on a large number of people, the crisis of governance here will continue indefinitely

John Fetterman, Angus King, Maggie Hassan, Dick Durbin, Jon Ossoff, Jeanne Shaheen, Kirsten Gillibrand, Catherine Cortez Masto, Mark Warner, Cory Booker, and of course Chuck Schumer. Maybe others not top of mind. Not all responsible will publicly vote for the cave - that's not how this works.

I'm a descriptivist at my core, but there are some ongoing changes that make me *twitch* and wonder if there isn't some way to abort this timeline. (To be fair there are a LOT of reasons to want to alter this timeline and linguistic changes are the least of them...but still...)
The more I see people using "casted" instead of "cast" the more I realize that I am a grumpy old fart who only wants to see the language evolve in my preferred directions, nevertheless I will happily judge you for it if I catch you doing it, look, my dude, the accepted past tense is shorter okay

Well this is horrifying.

I can get to Audrey Hepburn in "three hops" yet it goes without saying I have as much connection to her and her world as I do to Never Never Land.
Off the top of my head, in terms of degrees of separation I managed to get from myself to *Jimi Hendrix* in "three hops," this is a WILD assertion to make
