Amateur Author, hopefully soon to be widely published. Any pronouns are fine.
Of course I know nothing about economics, and I accidentally stumble my way into writing a financial thriller. #writing #writingcommunity

Pantheons are conglomerates, gods are corporations, dragons rule everything, and the revolution will not be civilized.
Time to eat your vegetables again y'all! What's a one-sentence elevator pitch for your book? If you need help, [thing] meets [thing] is a great baseline. #WritingPrompt

Scrivener legitimately changed the way I write. While I am a bit annoyed by the fact that its dictionary is so incomplete at times, and the fact that you can't 'select all' for compiling a document, these are minor quibbles for as good as a $60 program is.
Good morning and good evening #SFFChat!

Introduce yourself and share a "writing resource" you can't do with out (notebooks, a specific writing program on the computer, music to inspire, a particular writing advice blog, an editor you love, etc, etc)!

Genuinely surprised I had one for this. From a sign describing my protagonist's first meeting with the goddess Sekhmet appearing before her in a way that doesn't cause fatal holiness overdose. #wipsnips #writingcommunity

I want to see about hitting at least 22k in my current project. It's coming along pretty well so far (I've written almost 20k in the last week and a half) but I'm trying to pace myself so I don't flame out.
#queerwriters Monday: Goals Day!

What do you hope to accomplish this week? Can be anything, big or small! Let us know so we can cheer you on!

I don't understand why folks insist on writing sequentially. So far my current project has been written hopscotch style, where I jump between scenes, and if one scene is giving me blockage, I work on another. #writingcommunity #amwriting #writing

More stuff from my current project, this time expositing on what reality is like. Subtle as a brick, but subtlety is for cowards.

Bad day mentally. No writing done.

Considering reviving an old story idea I had about the War on Christmas being an actual conflict. Reflects how I feel about this season. #writingcommunity

I posted this elsewhere and someone replied, "Karl Urban is not in the TV series, but only in the movies, so he is the reel McCoy."

Genuinely wondering if any of the stories I've written in the last three years have a home. Countless rejections, most of which don't even list my name, are super fucking discouraging. #writing #writingcommunity

Why does Discord think that Scrivener is a game? #writingcommunity

Bit too long for alt text, but some exposition on the way the cities of Incorporated Gods work in my setting, and some introduction to a deuteragonist.

12,000 words in my current project. More complete than I've managed to do in a long while. #writingcommunity

10,000 words in under a week. I haven't had fun writing in a *long* time.

Let's get this done. Draft 1 by the end of January is my goal. #writingcommunity

Is it really that hard for a boilerplate rejection to just insert the name of the person you're rejecting? #writingcommunity

I genuinely wish that this site would get locked accounts. Nights like tonight I want to blow off steam in a public forum but not get weird looks from those who aren't already following me.

I'm effectively throwing 80,000 words in the trash to get a fresh start on my novel. Same basic concept, wildly different framing. And it feels so fucking good. #writing #writingcommunity

Society is a construct. You can just ask someone to do a ska cover of Faith of the Heart and they'll say "$300 please" and you give it to them and then you have it.

Everyone, give

your money. They deserve it.

If AI was actually a good thing, the billionaires would be hoarding it, not fucking foisting it into our lives in the most invasive ways possible.

Hey Google: Why the fuck do I need to have all my shit dumped into one inbox if I want to opt out of AI?

Friend of mine once told me that writing sex is a lot like writing horror: the less detail you use to describe the action, the better, because it lets the reader's imagination fill in the gaps.

I don't write sex very often, but I think the theory's sound.
Some people are very good at writing sex and some people are good at believing that they are good at writing sex, the first is a tremendously impressive skill and the second is what makes for deeply uncomfortable author presentations at science fiction conventions
There's nothing wrong with literary porn, but some of the crap those guys wrote was "Have you actuallly ever HAD sex?"

Had an epiphany. Let's see how much writing I can get done before midnight.

I know Avatar (James Cameron) has failed as a franchise because it contains several alien cat people with a tribal aesthetic and furries almost completely failed to embrace it.

Furries will embrace anything remotely anthropomorphic. There exists almost no Na'Vi fanart. How did this happen?

If publication really is a matter of luck, then I feel like I have to roll fifteen Nat 20s in a roll on four-sided dice.

It seriously sucks constantly being told nothing but 'no'.
November 21, 2025 at 4:39 AM
I feel like if a story takes more than 3 months to be responded to, the least that the people responding to it can do is a personal rejection, and not just a "Thank for trying, better luck elsewhere" notice. Fuck's sake.

One of my dad's favorite Sci-Fi stories was Murray Leinster's "A Logic Named Joe". I always thought that the portrayal of Logics in that story was a bit too far-fetched when I read it in my sophomore year.

I owe Mr. Leinster an apology, clearly.
