Here's a T. Rex bored to death trying to bite their own tail. My partner asked me to animate it in stop motion, after she watched a video about the very important topic of "could T. Rex chew its own tail like a dog". The puppet is still a work in progress 🦖

Glad my Watergate Phase kind of naturally faded before we started getting a Watergate every day (without anybody who matters seeming to care)

Doing my best to overcome my fear of bees and wasps by being fascinated with them.

Current mission is to successfully photograph this Great Black Wasp that hangs out around our community garden plot.

She's the size of my whole thumb and flies away whenever I turn on my phone's camera

I volunteer with my local animal shelter's foster program, which is the number one reason I haven't quit FB.

(That said, the group we use for announcements, questions, and pet photos is getting pretty quiet these days, so maybe change is in the air.)
In animal rescue, FB is the major connection method for everything from fundraising to communicating to volunteers.

It’s a critical part of local infrastructure.
Facebook is not good, but it has become *essential* for a lot of people, which is a huge issue. If you're in a small town, Facebook is often the only source of news about town government or local events. This makes it hard to ditch Facebook in the same way that people ditched Twitter.

Glad to hear buses being discussed seriously as a key part of the war on cars. I appreciate that this episode puts a lot of emphasis on free fares not being a black/white situation.

Also very much love that you thought about the bus operators too!
NEW EPISODE: "Should the Bus Be Free? With Yonah Freemark."

Zohran Mamdani has promised fast, free buses if he becomes mayor of NYC. It's a big idea, but is it a good one? @yonahfreemark.com walks us through the pros and cons, with examples from around the world.

If you want a weird but true fact to talk about:

Dexter Holland, lead singer of The Offspring, was instrumental in this. His doctorial thesis in molecular biology was sequencing mRNA in HIV. The paper was also heavily cited in creating the COVID-19 vaccine.
It feels like we should be making a bigger deal of “we actually did in fact find a cure for AIDS”

Evidence is growing that some HIV-infected infants, if given antiretroviral drugs early in life, are able to suppress their viral loads to undetectable levels and then come off the medicine. www.wired.com/story/the-fi...

I don't live anywhere near a big city. But every time I see anti-gentrification discourse, I'm reminded of how neatly it rhymes with the rampant nimbyism in my small Southern college town
the high point of my being denounced as a neoliberal shill on tiktok is when i insisted that gentrification is downstream of housing supply constraints, and isn’t a quality inherently possessed by people you don’t like
maybe I’ll get pilloried for like “not getting the joke” or whatever, but this is absolutely how, like, a comfortable percentage of Cool People think the dynamics of housing costs work and it fucking sucks

I see we're getting a 3.5-year head start on this bullshit
The people who are annoyed at LGBT people saying they'd never vote for Gavin Newsome or Kier Starmer are so ridiculous. They accuse us of being the reason why the "center left" is losing whilst actively opposing those trying to hold their guy to account, encouraging them to pursue worse policies

Twelve flights were canceled as airport employees chased the bear around the runway, a Yamagata airport official said. wapo.st/4luRYMP
