Cranky retired Simple Serpent - military technologist for 36 years, now I travel, swear, raise chickens, and go on the occasional walkabout.
Fight the urge to say "they deserved this". That's when hate wins. Charlotte Clymer does a beautiful job with this thread.
Ron, I get that you're angry. I get that you want accountability. You probably want a little revenge. Probably a lot of revenge. But your comment is completely absurd. It's clownish. It's inhumane. You're better than this. And you should be better informed.

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

Do. Not. Be. Distracted.

Write your congresscritters about the horrors of the budget bill.
The craziest thing about this fight between Trump and Elon Musk is that Republicans are trying to take away health care from 16 million people to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.

My son-in-law is in the US with a 10 year green card. It is not safe for him to leave the country (and return).

Full blown constitutional crisis.
I am a permanent resident in Spain.

I am a US citizen.

I am so terrified of returning for my annual summer visit that if you asked me right now, I would say I’m eating the cost of my plane ride back and not going “home”.

It’s not home anymore.

I do nor feel safe.

Jade makes the most glorious pieces! As I descend into witchiness, one of these will happen. I may be a crone, but I shall be stylish! ❤️

Worked 36 years as a military technologist - to help keep the edge for the US - to maintain global peace.

All for nothing.

These fuckmuppets are giving it away. Selling cars on the White House lawn, while joyfully cutting funds that feed the most vulnerable.

This OpEd says it all.
This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

This. It is the cruelty. That is the point of transphobia.
Pedro Pascal responding to transphobia on social media: “I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist.” (via @charliejane.bsky.social) [capitalfm.com]
Pedro Pascal calls out “vile and pathetic” transphobic trolls after defending trans rights
Pedro Pascal, whose sister Lux is a trans woman, is a prominent trans ally and he has no time for transphobia.

Grief is love.

Thank you for this @updrafter.bsky.social
I sat with my anger long enough until she told me her real name was grief.

Overwhelmed? That's what they want. Here are some practical ideas to shake off the helplessness.

I'm calling and emailing my GOP senators and rep every day - banging on the violations of congressional budget authority, and disregard for protection of PII happening at USAID and OMB.
Very good advice to find after a day of doomscrolling

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.

We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

Tell me, friends, a favorite memory of a human doing something deeply kind/selfless for another human.

To increase signal-to-noise ratio, if you can't remember an example, rather than reply to say "I have no answer" please read/enjoy the replies; perhaps you'll have an answer to the next #ShellQ.

Perspective. Use it or lose it.
Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

You know what I CAN'T do? Stop the incoming shitweasel from doing evil. You know what I CAN do? Feed people who need a hot meal.

These two pans will help feed some unhoused folks on the coldest day of the year.

Do what you can, from where you are, with what you have.
