It's tulip time! 🌷 Planting bulbs now is a promise of spring colour & long awaited nutrients for our pollinators.
Top Tip: Plant them deep! At least 3x the bulb's height. This helps protect them from pests & frosts, ensuring strong, tall stems.
Good planning always pays off!

Get a head start on your onion patch! 🧅
A few weeks before sowing, cover the soil with damp newspaper. This mulch warms the ground & stops weeds. Lift the paper to sow your seeds, then simply replace it until the first shoots appear. An easy, eco-friendly garden hack!

If you live in the eastern US, your butterfly bush, your barberry, your winter creeper, your nandina, your ivy are doing harm where you will never see it; you should destroy them

AND

You can't be expected to know this and act on it.

If you believe both things, you have a pretty hard problem.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Sunday was a foggy day for our visit to Tatton Park in Knutsford to see the Red & Fallow Deer, sadly we didn't get any action from the big males rutting but a few of the younger males & females were up for it.

One last (fresh) lemongrass tofu tonight, indoors overnight, harvest to freezer tomorrow. The rest of plants hopefully survive another week 🌱

(I succeeded in getting some of the tasty roots out this time but also spilled soil on my floor and cut my finger)

Harvesting maincrop carrots?
Avoid disappointment!
What can go wrong?
🥕 Forked roots = stony or unrotted soil.
🥕 Split roots = uneven watering after a dry spell.
🥕 Woody heart = lack of water.
For a perfect harvest, ensure loose soil and water consistently! #GrowYourOwn #Carrots #GardeningTips

Don't bin those autumn leaves! 🍂 They're a free superfood for your veg garden. Use them as a winter mulch to suppress weeds, retain moisture & protect your soil. Or, add them to your compost heap to create nutrient-rich "black gold" for a bumper harvest next year.
