This is a really important essay.

Our latest edition is out, with @omerbartov.bsky.social's magisterial essay on the history of genocide denial and how Israeli denialism over atrocities in Gaza has roots in the country's own history

Kemi Badenoch is a poor speaker & leader & a warm-up act for Robert Jenrick. But the problem is deeper: the intellectual bankruptcy of British Conservatism & their refusal to address their systemic failures in office. Hence they are stuck chasing the glib & nasty soundbites of Farage. #CPC25

Owing to the wars of the previous 150 years, European countries bound together in a *union* so they would never fight again.

We do this, among other ways, by have common tariffs and standards at the border, but none within; by having a common visa waiver, but FOM within; and a single currency

Billy Wolfe was the leader of the SNP in 1978 when Eilean Mor MacCormick was bequeathed to the party. It was he who recognised the historical importance of the island and envisaged the visitor centre.

Cortinarius is the most species-rich mycorrhizal fungus genus in the world. 🤎

These are Dark brown beltfoot (Cortinarius brunneus)
Avoid all Cortinarius species due to the high risk of poisoning.

Will this apply in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, or will this draconian curtailment of the right to protest apply only in England? 🧐

Will it apply to 'protests' which seek to harass or intimidate asylum seekers and/or immigrants, or only to protests about the genocide in Gaza? 🧐

If only those pesky
Suffragettes had confined themselves to one protest…

Home Secretary tells Sky News that “there is a gap in the law” when it comes to frequent, repeated protests on the same issue. Hence she will be giving police greater powers to move them to another location or time.

Jenrick complains that there are immigration judges (presumably he means the part-time ones) who spend the rest of their time representing immigrants.

Wait until someone tells him about Recorders (part-time Crown Court judges) who spend the rest of their time defending the accused.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

A stunning head of Medusa, the mythical creature whose sight turns everyone to stone. Medusa’s head was a popular motif used to ward off any evil.

In the non surprise of the year, assorted Reform run councils have found any obvious savings have already been made and, to quote Kent County Council they're already down "to the bare bones". #realitycheck

As someone has pointed out - does this mean he wants to send black and brown people to live in some of the very white rural villages?

I reckon he means to challenge Farage from the right. 🤨

I'm amused by the fact he's arguing for the abolition of private schools.
“We want all people to be living side by side.... We can’t have particular communities in this country where there is a heavy preponderance of one group or another. We want people to be living in mixed communities.”

He doesn't want areas where there is a 'preponderance' of one race over another. My kids school in rural Suffolk had one black family in a school of 1200 pupils. But that's not what he means, is it?

Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

The reason the government refuse to regulate the media is that they do not want to.

This is what they want.
