Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

All of the money that changed hands in the Teapot Dome scandal totaled less than $10 million after adjusting for inflation, and it was considered so corrupt we still teach it in high school government classes a century later.
Corruption so pungent, it wafts right off the page:

Lobbyists who do pardon deals “say their going rate is $1 million. Pardon-seekers have offered some lobbyists close to the president success fees of as much as $6 million if they can close the deal.”

I like the suggestion here that a mob boss ("patrimonial" if you must) regime is particularly vulnerable to charges of corruption. It's singing @adambonica.bsky.social's tune.

I missed this on its first trip around, then saw it on the "most popular with readers" list for 2025. Recommended, despite the cheesy headline.

Especially valuable if you have ever compared him to a mob boss.

TRUMP’S CLAIM ABOUT NIGERIA COLLAPSES UNDER THE FACTS:

From 2020 to 2025, more Muslims were killed in religiously targeted attacks than Christians, and most of the violence wasn’t even religious. These conflicts are driven by ethnic, economic, and criminal forces.

I think the more persistent issue is how many people think Trump is awful, but delight in it because he hates the people they hate, and they would rather see people they hate being angry than repudiate a depraved person.
You’d be surprised about how many Trump voters think he is a terrible human being and president, but believe they will be better off with his tax/economic agenda.

Conservatives regularly appropriate (steal) liberal ideas, accomplishments, heroes & heroic achievements as their own. They also often go further, simultaneously attributing their own evil practices to liberals--a combined process known as "envious reversal" per British psychoanalyst Melanie Klein:
