Without an understanding of immune tolerance, organ transplantation will not be possible. Also, their discoveries opened avenues for cancer and auto immune disease therapies.
Congratulations to these year's awardees of the nobel prize in physiology or medicine.

🎉 Hot off the press! Our new review on liver resident CD8+ T cells is here - exploring the dual nature of these cells either as protective "Jekyll" 😇 or pathogenic "Hyde” 😈

Dive in to see how the liver microenvironment shapes TRM immunity, pathology & therapeutic potential!

Now in #Science #Immunology: @griffithslab.bsky.social report that when #CD8 #TCells encounter their targets, #nucleus localizes to the #ImmuneSynapse (IS) & facilitates delivery of newly synthesized cytokines to the IS. They find nuclear polarization represents key step in #CTL -mediated killing!
Nuclear polarization to the immune synapse facilitates an early transcriptional burst
Cytotoxic T lymphocyte target recognition triggers rapid nuclear polarization to the immune synapse and an early transcriptional burst of cytokines.

In @jem.org, Arase, Murakami, Takeda et al. identify RUNX2 and BHLHE40 as key factors driving tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM) characteristic of #Crohns disease. Blocking these transcription factors mitigated the cytotoxic TRM phenotype in human disease samples. rupress.org/jem/article/...
