"Get the principals on camera" is such a telling phrase here, because it tells us that for Weiss there's no world in which the victims of these horrific actions can actually be seen as the subjects of the story: They're background noise, and the people who matter are the ones sending them.
Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”

As I sit in my office, working (and skeeting) while the rest of my division is at the holiday party, I have a hot take: Scrooge was right. Who wants to play with a bunch of Dickensian youths when he could be enjoying time to himself?

I'm not (since my 20s) in the habit of sharing screenshots of other people's dating profiles. But this leap of logic is incredible.

"No! I think you covered it all very well! I'll just note that [proceeds to talk for five minutes]"

I participated in an internal beta test of my employer's Gen AI platform. I'm a major AI skeptic but I posed it three questions that felt like they were reasonable use cases. I'm preparing a strongly worded email as a result of those prompts!

This may explain why I encountered a recipe for beef stew that included 1.5lbs of potatoes, yet only 6 teaspoons of liquid, total.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

this story was sort of lost in the last few days of the epstein news but it’s wild how many republicans appear to be pedophiles or okay with pedophilia

"World's first potential trillionaire has killed 600,000 people, including 400,000 children" is the only headline that anyone should ever read about Elon Musk
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

Something I haven't seen talked about yet: Prop 30 is up ~64 to 36. Harris won CA at ~58 to 38, in 2024. There are some negative things you can infer about the electorate from this, but also: that is a pretty dramatic swing, particularly since it's not like gerrymandering is universally popular.

Jury nullification is good and it's a good sign for America's path out of authoritarianism that juries are recognizing their power to nullify.

For a long time, I believed that incremental change was possible, and the right approach. It's now clear that whether possible or correct, it didn't happen, and bigger change is needed. I think many people already knew that and I was in denial/wrong.

As with Charlie Kirk, Republicans are fiercely loyal to the general idea of Donald Trump but will furiously refuse to grapple with anything specific that he actually says or does.
I didn't see the tweet. I didn't hear the comment. I didn't watch the speech.

Republicans have been feigning ignorance about their mad king for eight years now.

AOC: I think there's two things that are happening at once: One, there absolutely is an unprecedented abuse of power, destruction of norms, erosion of our government and our democracy in order to prop up an authoritarian style of governance

However, they are weaker than they look…

Still thinking about last year when I saw a psychiatrist about my anxiety, and the bulk of the session was taken up by him lecturing me about how anxiety is really bad for your health so it's important for me not to be anxious.

This is what Trump's government thugs are willing to do in broad daylight, to a US Senator, with cameras on.

They are sending the message that anyone who disagrees with Trump isn't safe in America.

This is authoritarianism.
