Jesus…this is all so…terrifying, yes, but also so embarrassing

Trump is fighting sleep during this antifa roundtable and sleep is gaining the upper hand

Again, there are two possibilities here—Trump knows he’s lying or he believes this obvious lie—and either one should be enough to remove him from office.

Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

feel like we can do better than “man these guys are real fatsos” when talking about agents of state violence idk
grimflandango.bsky.social
Sigh…yes, it could all just be a distraction…or maybe they’re just raging maniacs. None of which matters to the people with boots on their necks.

Chatbots and AI slop are going to ruin countless brains. Yours doesn't have to be one of them. Study history. Read poetry. Get acquainted with Bach, Shakespeare, George Eliot. In a time when people are rapidly getting dumber, we need communities devoted to the life of the mind.

Are they just showing him curated clips from The Walking Dead and saying it’s Portland?

God I love this movie so much! Back when Hollywood had no problem making you think some kid could absolutely be brutally murdered at any moment. But, yeah, as a child of the 80s and 90s revisiting old favs always involves a bit of holding your breath waiting for some real problematic shit.

#recent4K Kicked off Halloween season watching w/ The Monster Squad. 4K looks great here. Could do without the casual homophobia in the beginning, which now seems so out of place & forced (though it’s not the worst offender. looking at you, Teen Wolf). The Stan Winston monster designs still rock tho

This is strange because by all accounts GPT 5 was a nothingburger, barely a difference, egregiously overhyped. But this big tech stenographer would have you believe it’s game changing technology.

a few years ago i sincerely believed it to be the duty of artists to take these tools and show the world how to use them humanely and respectfully. i don’t believe that any more. every time i have tried i have left the experience frustrated and angry…

I'm an atheist so I don't believe prayer and good wishes changes jack shit

but that said, I truly hope with all my heart Dolly knows how much we all love and appreciate the fuck out of her.

I also hope she knows she can rest and care for herself, and fuck off Vegas.

She's a global treasure.

Just fillin’ in a survey…

"The biggest potential positive impact for so-called "AI" (especially LLMs) in Canada would be to not use it or support it in any way. That would impact the environment positively, the arts positively, the entertainment industry positively, academia positively...

Genuinely the only thing that could convince me to bother with VR.

Definitely felt more like the later sequels where they just pinned Cenobites into whatever crap script they thought they could film in Romania. And I had such high hopes.

And I’m not saying today’s a bad day. I think that’s just every day for me.

It occurs to me that I think I dread every single moment of my day.

What always strikes me about these “pragmatic Dems” is that they operate on the assumption trans rights is a decisive issue. That there’s a huge swath of rigid TERFs who would otherwise be all in on the Dems. I’d be curious to meet one of these supposed voters.
lexialex.bsky.social
Well that sucks for you. I guess your party is going to keep losing then
talleststone.bsky.social
I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

A complete dismantling of constitutional governance in order to facilitate crimes against humanity

What Trump, Musk, the Supreme Court, etc have done to these families is beyond cruel, beyond heartbreaking, beyond unforgivable

The goal of those in power right now is to create a permanent underclass that will 100% be desperate enough to accept these jobs even at lower wages.

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

There is a law called the Hatch Act. I must take training in it every year and it explicitly forbids me from engaging in any activities that might constitute a conflict of interest or suggest I am profiting off my position.

Monster Month Day 6 - Sphinx

If it speaks to you, no matter how harmless it seems, you must not answer. You may think it a beast, but the lords of these old, forgotten places are cleverer than men, and crueler.
