It’s democratic to choose to nominate Maria Steen and it’s democratic to choose not to nominate her. Nobody is being shut out of this fucking election. It’s just the conservatives whinging as per. It’s so BORING.

The new ICE song by Jesse Welles nails it.

ICE isn’t recruiting heroes, it’s recruiting the bitter, the rejected, the ones desperate for a badge to cover their failures.

Losers with power become the most dangerous kind.

I define these people by how quick they are to use phrases like "sensible people in the room" or "grow up"
Despite the fact that anyone who self-describes as 'centrist' will never accept this, it is very true. They are very easy to pull into extreme views, because they have no fundamental beliefs.
I think so, I mean the whole appeal of a centrist view is "well I'm not an extreme person, the bad thing can't be my fault, don't tell me it's my fault" and the actual policies endorsed and enforced follow that feeling, rather than create it.

@marcmaron won’t let @howiemandel downplay the impact comedians like Joe Rogan have had on stripping rights from trans people, immigrants, etc. with “hack” bullying jokes that helped pave the way for Trump & the radical right takeover.

Hahaha when you see it put like that
Ireland’s governing coalition got off to a rattled start today as its new member, a loose-cannon group of rural independents, insisted on holding positions in both the government and the opposition.
Ireland’s government face-plants on first day as partners trigger bedlam
Independents who back Taoiseach-nominee Micheál Martin’s new coalition provoke parliamentary gridlock over their strange demand to hold both government posts and opposition seats.

What we’re done is create a massive information infrastructure which privileges conspiracy theories, demagoguery, bigotry, lies, and hysteria - much larger than the traditional news infrastructure. It’s the main information source for many.

And then new political movements evolved to exploit it.

We often conflate “addressing false information” with “arguing with dismissives.”

But as I often say, even an angel from God with brand new stone tablets saying “global warming is real” wouldn’t sway the 10% who are dismissive.

For the other 90%, though, debunking myths is key to unlocking action!
Just coauthored a paper that says something which may seem obvious to many but still needs to be argued: why misinformation must not be ignored. Specifically we argue that 1) misinformation is prominent & 2) has a negative impact on people psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/202...
