We evacuated our kids out of Minneapolis this weekend and my spouse reports that as she drove them out of town she saw "multiple freeway exits where people are being pulled over." It feels like the Twin Cities is being subjugated by a hostile occupying force.

Looks like ICE is now cracking down on … Native Americans.

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

“Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigration enforcement on our own lands.”

It’s not enough to just express our outrage about ICE’s horrific killing of Renee Nicole Good. We must also demand that our elected officials act.

In a few months, we've progressed from snuff films of the US military killing civilians at sea to a snuff film of paramilitary secret police killing a mom in Minnesota—in both situations bogusly invoking "terrorism."
One of the obvious concerns about the administration's killing spree at sea was that if the US government would lawlessly kill people on the high seas just because the administration spuriously labeled them as "terrorists", it might do so elsewhere—including in the United States.

The fact that the Trump administration looks at a video where the victims final words are “I’m not mad at you” and the shooter seems to say “fucking bitch” after killing her, and thinks, yeah, this looks good for him, is amazing.

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.

In America you drop your kid off at school, get your brains blown out on the ride home, then the Vice President drops everything for a week to call you a terrorist, to slander your family, to protect the circumstances that led to your death so they can do it again. It is government by Alex Jones.

The paragraph just before this one goes particularly hard: “Vance knows. He doesn't care. Vance’s twisted and wrongheaded view of Christianity has been repudiated by two popes. His Catholicism seems to be little more than a political prop, a tool only for his career ambitions and desire for power.”

It's time to state clearly that if MAGA and Republicans can't condemn any part of this shooting, continue to blame the victim for it, and even hint that it's a just outcome that others "deserve," that's a crossing of the line that the rest of us won't ever be able to forget.
Rep. Randy Fine: "If you impede the actions of our law enforcement as they seek to repel foreign invaders from our country, you get what's coming to you. I do not feel bad for the woman that was involved."

NEW: Data released by ICE shows that virtually the entire growth of detention in the last few months has been among people with no criminal record at all - no prior convictions (no matter how minor) and no pending criminal charges.

I think what is remarkable here is that it illustrates the bubble Trump is in. As soon as another human being questions his interpretation as they watch the actual video, he moves on. Online, and clearly in the White House, no-one is pushing back and so he makes outlandish claims.
This is quite a sequence:

—Trump asks aide for video of ICE shooting to convince NYT interviewers that driver tried to "run over" agent

—They watch together

—Interviewers note it shows nothing of the sort

—Trump says "well . . . it's a terrible scene"

I’ve heard from multiple friends today about daycares being raided and parents being ripped out of cars (in one case with a child left behind in the backseat). Grim times here.
The situation in Minneapolis is insane: seemingly many large convoys of heavily armed masked men, blocking off streets at random, grabbing people nearly at random, racing around the city with no discernible plan or aim. Under attack by our own government the day after it killed someone

Matt Taibbi says that America should've taken Iraq's oil when they invaded.

"And as for the Iraq oil thing, I was all in favor, like if we were there, yeah, let's take it... I guess the idea of turning it over to the Iraqi people, but I don't know, I felt a little more mercenary about that."

Understand that State Media messaging has two layers:

1. The murderer was acting in self-defense.
2. Whatever the victim did — brush him with her care, block ICE vehicles, try to get away — merited summary execution.
This is very good from WaPo. Note position of officer's feet to side of car when first shot is fired. I think everyone defending this should be asked: Was it not even an *overreaction* to fire those shots, especially 2 & 3, into her face point-blank with the officer clearly not in danger? Really?

We need to get it lodged more firmly in the discourse that Trump and Stephen Miller are prioritizing removing nonviolent immigrants over public safety. They are sinking so many resources into their ethnic purification project that they're putting us in more danger.
