i was talking with someone in the twin cities about how it’s not even accurate to call them protesters. they’re literally just people protecting their city from TERRORISTS.
Every time the Trump regime uses the words "funded protesters" and "outside agitators" news outlets need to cut to this photo from last week.

ICE has invaded these communities. Outside agitators don't show up in their fucking bathrobes.

it is a moral imperative that we abolish prisons
Here's an enraging story I wrote about today: A lady currently incarcerated in Texas has been taking care of a stray cat. It got sick. Her daughter started a fundraiser to pay for the vet. The prison now has put her in solitary confinement. thebarbedwire.com/2026/01/15/p...
After a Prison Cat Fundraiser Went Viral, Texas Officials Put His Caretaker in Solitary Confinement
“She was crying when she called me,” her daughter told The Barbed Wire. “This is not a place my medically challenged mother should be.”

SCOOP: Internal ICE material and testimony from an official obtained by 404 Media provides the clearest link yet between the technological infrastructure Palantir is building for ICE and the agency’s activities on the ground.

Inside the app called ELITE—what ICE uses to find neighborhoods to raid.

How many more people are they going to shoot before the end of the week
Minutes ago, a person wearing a federal badge pointed what looks like a gun at protesters outside of the Whipple Federal Building near Minneapolis. The car the person is in then accelerates away from the protesters.

I wish people didn't act like disability is something I had or have any choice in. there's a real "well the world is gonna move on without you whether you like it or not" tone to everything.

you are absolutely exceptional here, Ian. the first chatbot inventor spent inordinate effort explaining how his simple program worked because people wouldn't believe it wasn't real. and there's been trillions of dollars spent on marketing and media framing this stuff as little guys you can talk to.
seen multiple people with this take, very sympathetic to the people buying into this shit, that it's *really hard* to remember a thing that you can have a conversation with is not actually conscious, and what can I say but "no it's not"?

I don't think I'm exceptional, here

I do not "have trouble" with this and am increasingly disturbed by the idea others do
the thing that strikes me about the Grok "apology" thing is that even those of us who are against "AI" as it is marketed to us have trouble not falling into the basic fallacy that they are trying to sell us, i.e. There's A Little Guy In There

i don’t think i’ll ever get over how we’re sending people to torture prison camps in el salvador STILL and those in charge of CBS want us to pretend it’s an old story that’s been resolved. people are still being tortured!

because it matters, i want to say that "it should be legal for children to be prescribed puberty blockers" is the compromise position. we can, and will, construct a world where social and medical transition is an inalienable right for anyone of any age

Here's the reality this example illustrates:

It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).

new xkcd is depressing. "im having symptoms" [lists three symptoms of long covid] "me too." "i guess we're just getting old." none of those things are normal to expecufrom aging before like, 60 at the earliest.

we already know covid is killing cancer patients because oncology wards refuse to mask, this is just more evidence of that
GOOD NEWS! A groundbreaking study in MORE THAN 1,000 people reveals that cancer patients who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine within 100 days of starting immunotherapy lived dramatically LONGER than those who didn’t. In some cases, their survival rate was DOUBLED.
