Sad news: someone stole baby Jesus from our anti-ICE nativity. But vandalism cannot stop us. We just adapt and keep on critiquing this administration’s cruelty on immigration. Where’s baby Jesus? We don’t know. He is being detained in a labyrinthian hellscape where his loved ones cannot find him.

And i’ve said before, guilt is useless and can easily curdle into resentment. A sense of moral obligation and solidarity on the other hand, can be productive.

On a COMPLETELY unrelated note, while I have you here, have I mentioned recently that ProtonVPN is the only free VPN service that is feasible to use reliably (no data caps) and is, to my evaluation at least, not a scuzzy data-selling ad-laden monstrosity?

Hello friends, I recently lost my health insurance + benefits & am currently looking at a bill of over $16,000 for which I cannot pay. This would not necessarily be an issue if I were not visually impaired and currently out of full time work, but I am humbly asking for assistance now. Any bit helps.

In late 2020 a Chinese man called Guan Heng travelled to Xinjiang with our BuzzFeed map of detention facilities to provide ground truth for our work - he provided the first corroborating evidence for many sites.

He escaped to the US - then ICE detained him.

Heng Guan is awaiting an immigration hearing on Monday that could lead to his removal from the U.S. and ultimately land him back in China, according to his lawyer and a New York-based activist group.

I have not heard of a single case where the DPRK sent a female programmer to either interview or work. So just hire Korean women and you won't have these problems! :)
It felt like the most dystopian late stage capitalist bullshit ever. The DPRK tech workers aren't even doing good work, they're working like 10+ jobs each. It's essentially just an insanely inefficient wealth redistribution, which only works because the US won't tax these stupid tech companies. 5/5

Some of the DPRK stuff is super depressing. There's one scam where North Koreans pose as US tech workers and just get jobs at tech companies. But since tech companies typically issue corporate laptops, which the can track, they can't be mailed outside the US. So they need an insider to host them 1/?
