For something that some medics call "controversial" there are far too many of the same "controversial" stories all over the world. We know our own children, when we say they have changed, medics need to start listening. #Pans #Pandas #CYP

Open letter from PANS PANDAS UK to new Health Minister Wes Streeting. Families suffering #Pans #Pandas have long advocated for change. Needs to be an end to the prolonged suffering that currently occurs due 2 lack of recognition, education, diagnosis, treatment & support. Not rare, rarely diagnosed!

Once again for the people in the back:

yeah I was gonna say, rates of diagnosis are probably very unrelated to prevalence right now. Only one clinic I even know of to send kids to with PANS/PANDAS

Research from Univ of Oklahoma have found that children with PANDAS/PANS with tics/OCD have autoantibodies targeting dopamine receptor 1 (D1R).

Also that those with Sydenham chorea (whiplash-like movements) have autoantibodies targeting dopamine receptor 2 (D2R).

It's actually broken my heart what has happened to Twitter. When I got reinfected with Covid in March 2022, coming on Twitter became the only thing I could manage to do.
It's the only place I have ever felt remotely seen or understood as either an autistic person or someone with #LongCovid.

When I was about 20 years into my CFS journey, I went to an infectious disease specialist to check for tick-borne infections. The tests came back negative, and he told me that I should see a psychiatrist.

This story is also part of a growing body of evidence that suggests auto-immunity drives some psychiatric conditions in adults including covid psychosis and some schizophrenia. Also worth reading this incredible recent story in @washingtonpost for context

A catatonic woman awakened after 20 years. Her story may change psychiatry.
New research suggests that a subset of patients with psychiatric conditions like schizophrenia may actually have autoimmune disease that attacks the brain.
