What does the UK Supreme Court’s gender ruling mean for trans men?

The decision a lot of universities face now is whether to:

-- have their federal funding pulled because they stood on principle to protect their students and the integrity of their research, or

-- have their funding pulled anyway just because they exist, regardless of how cravenly they submit.

If you buy the premise, which I don't, it's also wild that they ignore EVERY SINGLE female politician who's done great aggressive messaging in this moment, and as a fun bonus DOES NOT have a disqualifying scandal in her background
Andrew Cuomo is resurgent, Gavin Newsom is podcasting, and Rahm Emanuel is considering a presidential run. Are these the bullies Democrats need? @galbeckerman.bsky.social asks. theatln.tc/BO6vnFaE

The idea that Democratic senators can play this cute “just the exact right number of us voted for the bill so we could all vote against it and have it pass anyway!” game might have worked in a local-news driven era. But it fundamentally misunderstands the national media environment today.

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House.

We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication.

They own what happens next.

I think what is making everyone so angry isn’t just the cowardice of Senate Democrats, it’s their cowardice in comparison to the random normal person who runs for school board to oust a Moms for Liberty freak

The terrible CR Budget bill — written by right-wing House Republicans with no input from anybody but themselves — was passed tonight with the support of 10 Democrats.

An absolute failure of Democratic leadership. NOBODY in the Senate should have voted for this dangerous bill.

I will not vote to weaken my power to fight for WA state.

I will not vote to turn YOUR taxpayer dollars into Trump & Elon's personal slush funds.

I will vote NO. We should pass my short term CR, avoid a shutdown, and do our jobs.

And if they ask you to do it in a voice call or video call, send a follow up email reading "My understanding per our call is that I am directed by you to do the following: XYZ . Please confirm that this is what you are ordering me to do."

Not in writing? Not an order.
"would you please put that in writing" is how you pull off insubordination without actually being insubordinate. Very useful when you are getting sketchy (whatever 'sketchy' might mean) instructions from someone who might not want to take responsibility for it later.

Have you been asked, as a federal worker, to do something you don't want to do? But they won't put it in writing?

DON'T DO IT.

If they're going to punish you? MAKE THEM PUT IT IN WRITING. ALL OF IT.

Document, document, document.

Act confused. Be confused! Go slow. Require clarity. Lots. Document
