I am infinitely grateful for my ancestors having survived the journey across the Atlantic in the 1800s to live in Canada so that I could spend now 45 years living in a supportive culture. We have our challenges (MMIW and TRC for one) but we are permitted to speak truth to power 🇨🇦
In cutthroat cultures, people kiss up and kick down. They protect themselves by currying favor with people in power and exploiting those without it.

In supportive cultures, people speak up and shield down. They protect others who lack power by raising problems to those who have it.

Just visited the CDC on line data source this morning, it was down last night. Trump's censors have ended the available data at 2016, data through 2023 was yesterday. I have previously downloaded some of the later data and will be posting some comparisons. 🧪💡☠️ #Sociology #Population #News #Think

I grew up listening to the dangers of CFCs and the need to take care of the only home we have. As an adult I heard Tim Harford's Cautionary Tale "The Inventor Who Almost Ended the World" We need to celebrate innovation and pursue positive climate impacts.

The headline is interesting given that the initial project prototype was deployed in Fall 2024 in Arizona "for the Pima and Maricopa tribes, known together as the Gila River Indian Community, on their reservation near Phoenix." 🤨

In reading this I see in my mind's eye the maternal mortality rate graph compiled for Texas. While not as high as 50% it's trending upwards, without living in a country of the same internal turmoil that Afghanistan women face. The trends in these outcomes are directly related to policy choices.

I wasn't sure when the last politically motivated shooting happened in Canada. A quick search brought up this article from July 2024, which states the last fatal shooting was in 2014 with an attempt at armed confrontation stopped in 2020.

After 20 years in healthcare for the first time (while looking at informational sources for developing a public educational infographic) I questioned the validity of published CDC web content - questioned enough to not include any CDC information in my own Canadian context public health creation.

I’ve spent a good chunk of my career relying on American science and engineering to keep me alive. Yesterday, RFK Jr. testified at the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. It was sad to see him try to destroy the life’s work of so many American scientists. He shouldn’t be in this job.

I appreciate the significance behind #KingCharlesIII timely visit and willingness to deliver the #SpeechfromtheThrone to open #Parliament in #Canada. Politics and the Monarchy are kept at arms length. But this signal is an important gesture to aid Canada. #cdnpoli

There is no aborted fetus debris in the MMR vaccine, or in any vaccine at all.

It is worth noting that the Catholic Church, one of the most staunch anti-abortion organizations in the world, has a formal policy that encourages all vaccinations.

RFK Jr. is very loud and very WRONG about Autism.

1. It’s not a disease
2. There are thousands of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder who pay taxes, have jobs, can use the bathroom on their own, and are thriving in life.
