As the year draws to a close, I’m signing off 2025 with a magical find!

An ancient amber bear. Carved some 10,000 years ago, it washed up on a beach at Fanø, Denmark, from a submerged Mesolithic settlement in the North Sea.

✨ Happy New Year all! ✨

Yeah, man, the only difference between your career and Mark Rufallo’s career is the political stuff.

NYT just ran a bizarrely credulous piece about New College, the school that DeSantis and Rufo have turned upside down.

There is one good outcome of the article: This @donmoyn.bsky.social post, which is one of the best pieces of media criticism I've read all year.

Two years ago, when the school district was planning to install a new play area that wasn't accessible to some classmates, 4th-graders mounted a petition drive to block the design. They went to the school board meeting with "Play for ALL" signs.

Then they set out to create a worthy replacement.

The madrasa indoctrination is starting very early.

These are ultra-dark times. If you're trans, I'm your friend and ally and I stand by your side every step of the way.

Repost if you do too.

I cannot emphasize enough how unhelpful it is to make the joke or comment — I’ve been guilty of making it at times myself — that this is conservative “cancel culture,” it’s not. It’s an authoritarian, cultish, censorship project run by the most powerful people in the federal government…
This isn’t “cancel culture,” it is markedly way worse

There are violent extremists on the left but they are not in charge of the party. You can find them on social media, not in the halls of power.

The violent extremists on the right are in congress, on courts, and sitting in the Oval Office.
