Once upon a time, there was a plant. It was beautiful and full of life, then someone gave it to me and it died.
The end.

to be clear i don't dislike showgirl. i'm still bopping to it on the daily. i just think Taylor has made better pop albums
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
no omg!!!! what's her @ and where can i follow
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
but like i said i don't believe this album was really meant to be taken super seriously, it is just cheeky and fun, which is totally fine but i tend to prefer more serious music so it's mostly just personal preference
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
it's only 41 minutes, but the first 4 songs are the best ones on the album. the rest was mostly pretty mid for me on my first listen but is growing on me now
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
overall i do find myself enjoying it a little more with time but this is def not my favorite Taylor album or even my favorite of her pop albums by a long shot. however this woman is not beating the "put narcotics into all of my songs" allegations bc even so, i still can't stop listening lmao
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
at the same time it's completely fine to just let this be a silly, fun pop album and just enjoy the music and the vibes. both viewpoints are equally valid (you may even feel both simultaneously)
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
i think it's completely fair to feel disappointed that this album doesn't really say anything bigger or more important than "i love my boyfriend and his enormous cock" when Taylor historically has been making Some kind of bigger point or statement with her previous work.
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
the excessive variants are annoying but it's important to note that this is a more widespread problem within the pop music industry and is not specific to Taylor
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
some of the songs do feel a bit out of touch. for instance i don't know anyone who cares about half the things mentioned in wi$h li$t when most of us struggle to afford basic necessities.
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
imo the fate of ophelia is the best song overall (and it's not close) but father figure is the best song lyrically

the melodies are annoyingly catchy, sometimes to a detriment

i still don't really know what cancelled was doing on this album
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
this album is a lot more enjoyable if you don't take it seriously. it is not a serious album and was never meant to be.

wood is a funny song and is meant to be funny. it is meant to make u chuckle a little and maybe cringe

ok so we're nearly a week in and i have some more thoughts about showgirl

CRY MY EYES VIOLET, ELIZABETH TAYLOR
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
it's fine to not know things but she is using it as a placeholder for "i don't want to use any critical thinking skills so this needs to be someone else's problem"
imcryingpotatoes.bsky.social
if i hear "i don't know what that is" one more time from this woman's mouth i stg

This is from a children's cartoon on Netflix called
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
Since when has something like this been considered appropriate for children?!

"Sexually assaulting"? You know that she's dead right?
How do you assault a dead person?

Bluesky taught me the joy of blocking. I block people everywhere now. I just blocked an ex boyfriend on duolingo. I can't stop.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."
