"Quiet, Piggy" reactions from yours truly:

1. Soft misogyny in public is a tell for hard misogyny in private.

2. Not a single male reporter clapped back at Trump's "quiet piggy" comment.

3. I've seen no main page coverage from the biggest outlets. Absolutely part of the problem.

It’s the seduction of the “silver bullet,” the belief that there remains a fact yet to be revealed that’s so damning that it will break Trump’s spell. But he’s not a witch, he’s a fascist. It’s not magic, it’s an awful movement, and you beat it not with counterspells but with better organizing.

Tomorrow, a certain online mega-retailer launches a book sale, just days before Indie Bookstore Day on 4/26. This is no coincidence; Bookstore Day is one of the largest revenue drivers for indies.

Indies need our support to thrive & build community spaces for all...mega-retailers do not.

Can you trust an average person?

The strongest predictor of folks saying 'yes' to that question is:

Educational attainment.

That was true in the 1970s.
It's true today.

However, notice how much interpersonal trust has dropped across the board in 50 years.

Also important, the tactic of weaponizing civil rights against equality movements is identical:

"protecting" Jewish people requires punishing pro-Palestine

"protecting" women requires eliminating trans

"protecting" white + Asian students requires eliminating Black and Latin affirmative action
The choice of Columbia in particular shows that there's *no* amount of suppression of pro-Palestinian speech a university can engage in that will insulate and protect it; so might as well try to do the right thing, which Columbia has determinedly avoided since October 7.

No, I don't believe that acquiescing to the right-wing framing of trans women as sexual predators who are inherently threats to cis women is in our best interests, or in any way reflective of reality.

Saving Casey's seat would be huge for getting the Senate back in 2026. Curing is only going on through Tuesday the 12th.

Terrified people getting constantly re-terrified can’t think clearly. We all need to be thinking as clearly as we can. This was true in 2016 and during the early-pandemic info vacuum and it’s true now.

The complaint about the phrase “toxic masculinity” is a classic reversal of victim and offender: the moral emergency is not the sexist violence and degradation that women are complaining about, but the way that overhearing their complaints makes men feel.
