“The most troubling aspect of Trump’s attacks on Somali-Americans is how acceptable it’s become for the president of the United States and members of Congress to speak this way, and how much we’ve desensitized ourselves to it.”

oh shit I love this????? I had never heard this story!

as always with wild saint lore, I’m just as interested in WHY certain legends stick. there’s something really moving in the idea of centuries of Catholics repeating and repeating a story where Mary’s miracle was saving two men from homophobes

Instead of focusing on threats from Russia and China, Trump’s new National Security Strategy takes aim at Europe, warning against “civilizational erasure” caused by unfettered migration and a feckless liberal establishment @ishaantharoor.bsky.social writes

The release of the U.S. National Security Strategy landed like a grenade in Brussels, underscoring the depth of ideological vehemence within the White House.

It is disgusting that Trump’s hateful words of calling Somali Americans “garbage” have continued to go unchecked by members of the Republican Party.

These are US citizens he is denigrating.

We have a duty as Americans to call out his hateful rhetoric.

UPDATE: Another Chicago-area church has put up an immigration-themed Nativity scene.

A church member at Urban Village Church sent this one along, where Mary, Joseph and Jesus are gone and replaced with a sign that reads: “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”

Ya this all seems correct to me. NYPD will never like Mamdani but they might at least respect him if he shows strength and power rather than weakly capitulating.
Enormous mistake as @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social reappoints Jessica Tisch NYPD commissioner. He calls her a pursuer of police corruption but she promoted John Chell. Calls her an opponent of authoritarianism but she collaborated with ICE. The case against Tisch:
Mamdani's NYC Can't Afford NYPD Commissioner Tisch
With ICE on its way, how can we expect an ICE collaborator to protect New Yorkers? Here's a compromise: make Tisch sanitation commissioner again

Here's an idea: Any Democrat who wants to be taken seriously as a presidential candidate in 2028 must pledge to rip this cabal of anti-democracy tech fascists out of our government.

Anyone who won't make that pledge is for the billionaires, not the people. This must be a deal-breaking litmus test.
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

Now if she shoots someone she can remain anonymous.
