Procedural Content Generation! In Video Games!

I'm currently available for hire if you are in need of having something generated, or your generated things aren't behaving.
Yeah, it's in-depth enough that I learned things while still being pretty accessible.

I deeply believe that one of the best ways to prepare people to deal with AI is to teach them how it actually works.
I agree that we don’t already know how to teach “AI literacy” well. But I also think literacy is too modest a goal. College students should graduate knowing how ML works; it’s liberal knowledge analogous to RNA or trig, not search-engine skills or Excel. And we do know how to teach it in that way.
Opinion | Stop Pretending You Know How to Teach AI
Colleges are racing to make students ‘fluent.’ One problem: No one knows what that means.

When I say that I refuse to use AI to do necromancy, I do mean that rather literally.

This is not disproving my thesis that AI models are the fair folk, and should be approached accordingly.

Between the tutorialization discourse and the knowledge gated game discourse, I'm gravitating toward a theory of genre specific player learning.
I'll be honest: dunno that I'm willing to buy a "we HAVE to force tutorialization down players' throats" argument in a period where games like counterstrike, dota, minecraft, roblox et al are some of the most popular games in the world

Not at all close. Novel-length plots are very hard. There has been a consistent, odd, overreaction on this.

this is a reply to OpenAI’s announcement of GPT-1

six years later, how close are we to novelist being an extinct profession?

There's two cardinal sins of talking about or working with AI that I think deserve instant excommunication:
- Cookbooks
- Necromancy
What passes for journalism in this country has become an embarrassment. Credulous engagement with corporate and political messaging with no interrogation of what’s actually happening. This is a particularly egregious example but many journalists are doing similar.
At 4p ET/1p PT, I’ll have a one of a kind interview with Joaquin Oliver. He died in the Parkland school shooting. But his parents have created an AI version of their son for a powerful message on gun violence. Plus TX Rep. @jamestalarico.bsky.social - see you soon on Substack and later on YouTube.

if you are interested in having a deep relationship with art of any kind, you owe it to yourself to start engaging with it the way Stacey describes here, you will have a much better time with every piece you come across and learn a ton in the process
Wow we’re having “games are art” discourse again! Just gonna leave this here.

it's really hard to overstate how many of the most impactful writers, thinkers, etc of that era are just gone today. the games industry is infamous for burning through its devs; crit in some ways plays an even more important role in the scene's "institutional memory" but has even less continuity
