Breaking news: Donald Trump has said that 'help is on its way' to protesters in Iran as he urged them to take over the country’s institutions. The US president added that he had cancelled 'all meetings' with Iranian officials until killings of the protesters had stopped. ft.trib.al/ezIxgZB

Ah, yes, the totally real danger of Greenland becoming another Venezuela! I have to hand it to this guy. Even if I tried really hard, I would never come up with a justification for invading and annexing Greenland that was even remotely as stupid as this.
Rep. Randy Fine on his bill to make Greenland the 51st state: "We need to make sure we assert our dominance over the Western Hemisphere ... the last thing we need is Greenland to become another Venezuela where we have huge problems we have to deal with in the future."

It's cruel at the best of times.
Last year, with her due date approaching, @madeleinewatts.bsky.social sought to prepare for parenting by arming herself with knowledge—all the better to stave off annoying narratives of motherhood floating in the cultural ether.

Is creating new life in the face of rising authoritarianism, a casually accepted genocide, and climate collapse inherently cruel?

Couldn't help but laugh out loud. These guys are something.
KERNEN: Europeans are talking about it almost being like Vladimir Putin and Ukraine.

JEFF LANDRY: I disagree. When has the United States engaged in imperialism? Never. Europe has engaged in imperialism. The reason the Danish have Greenland is because of imperialism.

Again. Over and over again. When fascists explain to you that they are aggressive expansionists that want to invade their neighbours - believe them. They always mean it.
TAPPER: Can you rule out the US is going to take Greenland by force?

MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO

T: So force is on the table?

M: Nobody is gonna fight the US militarily over future of Greenland

Great piece by @pederschaefer.com about how the new world, old world clichés don't really work in the 21st century.

It is the United States, the world's oldest democracy, which is creaking under its archaic institutions. The comparatively younger nation-states of Europe, and the EU, are more agile.
Is America the 'New Old World?'
Or does Europe actually have the newer, more able institutions and social fabric?

The thing with this pedophile is that whatever Putin's lie you name, he'll deny it being a lie.
What is it that happens in their heads?

And I’m not even including the whole sex offender thing.
