Let's be clear-eyed here.

The US government wasn't mad at TikTok because it was shaping public narratives, censoring specific views and collecting data on its users.

They were mad because they wanted 🇺🇸 to have that tool instead of 🇨🇳. And now with the forced sale, they have it.

1. This short thread is about the issue that dominates almost every aspect of politics, and causes or exacerbates most of our problems: the extreme wealth of a small number of people. Here’s the amazing thing: almost the entire political class aligns with the ultra-rich against the rest. 🧵1/10

Indeed. Who wouldn't want a malfunctioning paedophile robot (Mechahitler) to look after their children and pets?
Robots to watch your kids. Sounds like his kind of parenting.

Great piece on why it’s absurd for French people to be cheering Carney’s speech while they simultaneously try to block the #Mercosur deal.
Europe should listen to Carney, not just applaud.
At Davos, Mark Carney argued that prosperity in a fragmented world depends on building coalitions that work, issue by issue. Europe applauded. Then it did the opposite.

There you have it, the Board of Peace is nothing more than a corrupt real estate deal dressed up as diplomacy with the sole purpose of enriching Trump and his favoured cronies.
Trump makes concluding remarks. He says Gaza ceasefire push began because he is “a real estate person at heart, and it’s all about location, and I said, ‘look at this location, on the sea, look at this beautiful piece of property’”.

"The only way this argument about military security makes sense is if Trump is preparing for a future when the United States is no longer going to be allied with Denmark."
In this video, I discuss Trump's obsession with owning Greenland, and what Europe can do about it.

I'd advise people to listen to the whole thing.
Carney: "American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, a stable financial system... this bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition... recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as a weapon. Tariffs as leverage ... "

Trump clearly see's the future of Gaza as a dodgy real estate project for him and his corrupt pals to milk as much money out of as possible, and nothing more.
Trump has invited Hungary’s PM Viktor Orban to join his so-called “Peace Council”. Orban says it recognizes Hungary’s role in seeking peace. Earlier, Bloomberg reported Trump plans to charge $1B for permanent seats in this body, pitched as an alternative to the UN.

A corrupt thief invites another corrupt thief. How surprising. Then, we can be sure that this "peace council" has nothing to do with peace, but with fucking people over, stealing land and stealing resources. As always with Trump.

that's the easy answer but it's worse than that. they also use calibrated support to keep them fighting and dying at exactly the rate that would bleed adversaries without actually winning. saying they don't give a fuck is too generous bsky.app/profile/blac...
The answer is the US has never ever given a fuck about the rights or freedoms of anyone, much less a bunch of people thousands of miles away.

Its all a ruse. The real goal has ALWAYS been securing national interests in foreign regions, whatever they may be.
my new piece in FP: The US keeps telling people to rise up against their regimes, then leaving them to die. Hungary, Iraq, Syria...now Iran? I try to offer an explanation for this very consistent pattern. (gift link) foreignpolicy.com/2026/01/16/t...

Ah, yes, the totally real danger of Greenland becoming another Venezuela! I have to hand it to this guy. Even if I tried really hard, I would never come up with a justification for invading and annexing Greenland that was even remotely as stupid as this.
Rep. Randy Fine on his bill to make Greenland the 51st state: "We need to make sure we assert our dominance over the Western Hemisphere ... the last thing we need is Greenland to become another Venezuela where we have huge problems we have to deal with in the future."

It's cruel at the best of times.
Last year, with her due date approaching, @madeleinewatts.bsky.social sought to prepare for parenting by arming herself with knowledge—all the better to stave off annoying narratives of motherhood floating in the cultural ether.

Is creating new life in the face of rising authoritarianism, a casually accepted genocide, and climate collapse inherently cruel?

KERNEN: Europeans are talking about it almost being like Vladimir Putin and Ukraine.

JEFF LANDRY: I disagree. When has the United States engaged in imperialism? Never. Europe has engaged in imperialism. The reason the Danish have Greenland is because of imperialism.
