Saw an instagram of somebody making animated 80s logos for modern companies and the front end urge to make everything out of CSS and fancy boxes took over…

I wrote a bunch of the varying-by-locale font selection for Netflix and I would give my eye teeth never to have to do something like that (or maintain it) again…

New from 404 Media: Google removed an ICE-spotting app too. Called Red Dot, an immigration support group on the ground in Chicago told me it was using it. Google now removed, just like Apple did with ICEBlock after DOJ pressure. Google calls ICE vulnerable group

Google Calls ICE Agents a Vulnerable Group, Removes ICE-Spotting App ‘Red Dot’
The move comes as Apple removed ICEBlock after direct pressure from U.S. Department of Justice officials and signals a broader crackdown on ICE-spotting apps.

One of the neat* things about adding +companyName every time you sign up for something, is that you can tell when @adobe.com sells your info to recruiters.

I work in user retention, so kudos to whoever at @vercel.com was in charge of the account deletion flow. Good user safety and relatively low friction.

They’re having fun hurting people & getting away with it. And they’re being paid handsomely with our hard earned tax dollars while we can afford less & less as the economy tanks. This guy didn’t even bother hiding his face, that’s how confident he was he could get away with brutalizing her on camera

I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (🎥: Elias Eliahu)

40% of Republicans think the COVID vaccine killed more people than the COVID virus. One in four believe that QAnon is real.

No matter how far they radicalize, we are told over and over again that the people being rude to them are the problem.

Get the hell off Substack before you literally can’t anymore without blowing up your business
With Substack's latest launch, writers are actually ceding control of the billing relationship to Apple, which now owns and controls the subscription.
These transactions, subscriptions, and customers will no longer be accessible in their Stripe account.

Most importantly, that means that if writers choose to leave Substack, they won't be able to port their paid subscriptions over to another platform like they could previously. This predatory platform lock-in is incredibly dangerous for writers. It strips away data and control, while locking them into the platform.

If you’re in favor of shutting down museum exhibitions or banning books because they make you feel bad, that’s a pretty good tip that you deserve to feel bad.

New Mexico has issued a public health order that removes federal restrictions to COVID-19 vaccine access so that pharmacies in New Mexico can vaccinate people of all ages and risk profiles. Every state need to do this!

ABC News is still calling RFK Jr. a “vaccine skeptic.” The dude was one of the most prominent anti-vaccine activists for decades. There’s video of him in 2023 saying that there’s no vaccine which is safe and effective. You can call him an anti-vaccine activist!

CNN looks to have ChatGibbitied the CDC page and left off the large sub-list of qualifying disabilities — including things a pharmacy can’t challenge like ADHD and visual impairment — that are on the CDC page.

It’s BAD, but it’s not as bad as CNN is saying.

This list is DEEPLY incomplete. Did you have ChatGibbity summarize the cdc page?
You’re going to actively prevent people from getting the vaccine with this information. According to the list you link to, there’s an entire subsection of disabilities (like adhd, hearing loss, or TBI) that qualify

If you are okay with this, if you think this is justified, if you think people living on the street have brought this upon themselves, if you think this is good leadership, you may be able to fool yourself that you care about others but you don’t fool me

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

This SPECIFIC screen was in my memory for almost 40 years before I tracked down where it came from. She was REAL.
I only saw the color version in the store, but when we got a trial of prodigy and 4-year-old me got to sit on my dad’s lap and try it on our black/amber screen… totally immersive magic.
