the picture of the stuffed animal sticking out of the glove compartment just inches away from the blood spattered dashboard is gonna be one of those images that haunts me forever. even when your whole job is looking at the horrors on purpose and you get good at forgetting, some things are seared in.

Building a City from Scratch: An Introduction to Urban Planning Through Manukau Ranges. #CitiesSkylines2
From Blueprint to a Living Metropolis Have you ever wondered why your home is on one side of town and the factories are on the other? Or why the subway entrance is precisely on that corner? These are not accidents; they are the result of urban planning, a discipline of deliberate choices that shape our daily lives. Building a city is one of humanity's most complex and fascinating endeavours—an act of creation on a massive scale requiring foresight, strategy, and adaptation.

My favorite part of the US doing horrible shit is every time it happens there is a segment of the population who says "this isn't who we are!" As though they are 12 years old.

I remain persistently mad at the way these articles present human-written music and machine-plagiarism-of-human-written music as if they're just two different creative processes that are equally valid.

They are not. The latter will never exist without the former
«KI-band» booket til flere festivaler: – Stjeler plassen til de som lager musikk selv
Bandet Vestavind, som har laget sine største hits ved hjelp av kunstig intelligens, spiller på norske festivaler i sommer. – Publikum vil ha det, sier Byfjordfestivalen.

We're looking at multiple days of 45° and a slight reprieve of 37° on Fri. I've been anxious as hell about it for days. Being in a small town there are not really any options for cool places other than stay home, so I'm just hoping my air con and fans are enough.

[reposting; I misinterpreted the OP]

This is spot on re why media outlets are being dazzled / treating responses as apologies etc. But imo the tech angle is not ultimately obscurant: Xai built community-choking data centres to enable ultra-fast abuse gen, journos need to understand that!
I think the AI angle of this is obscurant. It doesn’t matter that grok is “an AI” whatever you take that to mean. Suppose X hired a team of guys to photoshop the clothes off of women and children whenever anyone asks. That’s functionally identical what happening here. It’s not complicated.
A functional country would shut Grok down permanently. Like, immediately. Right now. Last week. Whatever. Just flip the switch. Obviously.

This is a nice @unearthednews.bsky.social piece about how oil and gas extraction in Iraq is shockingly dirty, inefficient, economically absurd ->
Big oil’s dirty secret in Iraq
Gas flaring is remarkably high in Iraq. The impact this has had on ordinary people and the planet has been obscured. Until now.

Just to restate this very clearly: the fossil fuel industry isn't a normal business. They are powerful enough to draw subsidies and other forms of gov't intervention for otherwise unprofitable ventures.

They are just absurdly good at this.

There's a link downthread and you'll be shocked to learn that he says nothing to suggest that he understands people accused of crimes as having rights or potentially being members of the category of victims.

And speaking of Christ, people in prison are among those mentioned in Matthew 25.

One way of understanding this is that militaries do not run on renewables or EVs. More conflict = more oil.
