So excited to see this volume now out: an exceptional group of philosophers scrutinising a wide array of historical figures on the empathetic emotions, very adeptly edited by Keith Ansell-Pearson & David James. My chapter looks at Husserl and Stein's work on empathy(1/3)

"Look, that's just the way things are"

Chances are they are benefitting from an injustice they don't want to talk about.

Team Mamdani’s strategy over antisemitism was smart, sensitive and effective. It was grounded in universalism and a shared humanity. It worked. And it could work elsewhere too.

This whole thing is racist, but take particular note of the threat of denaturalization. That's stripping people of their citizenship, and that's the road to mass murder and atrocity.
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

The diplomatic "achievement" of the ceasefire was to recalibrate the tempo of the genocide sufficiently to get it off the front pages and the news bulletins, thus alleviating the political pressure on Israel's western accomplices.

It should go without saying, but... it's really not good for the public institutions of another country to be acting as if they are the colonial possessions of the far right, petty, tyrannical US executive.
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Rachel Reeves has done technocracy so badly it will be used as a case study in how not to manage uncertainty. Yes, forecast long-term consequences of choices. But don't set crude "iron rules" that make govt spending absurdly sensitive to small fluctuations in those long-term forecasts.

15 years - if you're e.g. a nurse, or a teacher

Yesterday the Danish SD Party did SO BADLY in the Copenhagen local elections that it lost control of the capital for the 1st time since 1903.

The UK outright engaged in stationary banditry, stealing from the poor to give to the rich, all in order to appease the most petty xenophobe bigots on earth. And I feel sure it won't even work on the Home Secretary's terms, ultimately all this will strengthen not weaken Reform.
The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT
