Shetland: quietly slam-dunking outstanding performances by completely unknown actors, while some of the series regulars provide concrete levels of stiffness.

This is how artists of all stripes can push back against the onslaught of the enshittification of our culture through AI zone-flooding. When you can, if you can, say ‘no’ to this bullshit.
Insist on the human. Insist on payment. Don’t allow your work to be folded into the AI machine.
I'm already an above average writer so any supposed advantage to using an LLM goes out the window. I am not an above average artist, but that's why I pay artists when I need art. Remember I have it in my contracts that all work on my books (art, editing, translation, etc) has to be done by humans.
I imagine LLMs are less useful for expert wordsmiths like Mr. Scalzi.

Looks like the Star Wars orginal trilogy, as it appeared in cinemas in ‘77/80/83, is finally getting a full restoration, despite Lucas destroying the Lucasfilm negatives to make the Special Editions.

No Greedo shooting first, no cgi, Lak Sivrak in the cantina….the works.
Bring it.

I’ve started buying Star Wars figures from the 90s. This is arrested development of some sort- I was too old to buy them then, I’m far too old to buy them now. I’ve bought 22 in the last week. I may be single if this continues- like an addict I’ve started hiding them- and my shame-around the house.

Swan Song (2021) was such a left turn for Udo Kier, it made me love him even more. It’s a great performance.

Taken from 'In Search Of Tomorrow'
(2022), a five hour documentary on 80s sci fi. Well worth renting.
Peter Hyams' love for Connery is evident here.
(Uploaded as two overlapping clips because BS is stuck in the 2010s) Pt 2 below.

Looks like Joan is off to the United States.

I’ve been afforded some magnificent opportunities recently that have pushed my work on, got the word out, and I’m hugely grateful for all of the support from those of you with incredibly good taste.

An exciting new startup is coming soon…

I never thought that in 2025 the most cutting and incisive satire on the US government would be coming from South Park of all things, but it is knocking it out of the…er…park at the minute.

Labour don’t give the slightest shit about the arts. If they did they would be pushing back against AI companies using the work of artists like me, uncompensated, to train their models, rather than tearing up copyright law and giving them carte blanche AND cheap power to do it

Fuck the Labour Party

Mr Burton is on BBC1 lads- about the relationship between Richard Jenkins and Philip Burton.

Not sure it’s particularly good, and Toby bloody Jones is in it, but anything Burton and all that

Predator Badlands is shockingly bad. Those pitching that it is a fresh new take simply lack the ability to imagine a world in which we aren’t force-fed shit like this.
The Marvelisation of the Alien and Predator franchises continues apace.
Romulus, Alien Earth and now this; all soulless junk.
