6/ Incredibly, over the last few years around £200,000 has been raised for homeless charities as a result of this thing. So, this year, if you're enjoying the pix, you could fling a few quid to Centrepoint via this link: gofund.me/637d21d0

Kennedy assassination in 63, then Churchill's funeral, England winning the World Cup and then the Aberfan disaster.
What's the first major news story you remember as a child?

Challenger for sure. After that the next one I remember vividly was the Berlin Wall. Then the invasion of Kuwait. Obviously other things happened between those but I'm talking off the top of my head.

Really curious about Ukrainian answers.
What's the first major news story you remember as a child?

The Challenger explosion. I remember watching the footage on the little B&W TV that only came out of the closet for space shuttle launches and presidential speeches.

Gisele Pelicot should named as the Time person of the year. For bravely waiving her anonymity in one of the most horrific rape cases the world has seen, to take a stand for survivors and shame the perpetrators.

Instead they’re featuring Trump, a rapist, for the second time. Obviously.

So many people think 'oh it'll all be okay'. Just like so many people thought 'oh, Dems will pull it out in the end, the other side are loopy'. Nope, and... nope. It might not be okay. Just like it wasn't okay in November.

Well done to Plymouth’s Labour-run council for their plan to plant 2,000 trees this winter. It’s welcome that more are older and taller so we can get benefit faster from them. Let’s have more like this as we seek to tackle the climate and nature crisis.

MONTHS AFTER Joe said he would not pardon Hunter, Trump won the election & appointed a man as FBI Director who has spent the last 4 years on every right-wing podcast ranting that he was going to go after Hunter. Obsessed with him. Were you aware of that, critics? Not relevant?

Young women working in the media often have zero power to call out harassment. I can remember being groped on a doc shoot by a contributor and not saying anything in case it scuppered the doc or my job in it.

With age comes power & security. I can’t wait to reach “a certain age”.

Maybe because middle class women of a certain age are in a position to call out this shit without fear of losing a salary they need. And can do it on behalf of young women starting out in their careers who are just as sick of this shit but can’t say anything because they need to earn a living.

I'm an atheist who loves carols and this thread is brilliant! Thank you @mrchrisaddison.bsky.social 🎄🔔🎶
Due to a series of events, it's December again. And for the fifth year, I'm going to do an advent calendar of carols. Sub-category: Ones I particularly like. Something old, something new, nothing cheeky, nothing blue. I'll link to them all in this thread and do a YouTube playlist as well.

Or been arrested for numerous sexual assault charges

Or been found to have frequently bullied her staff

Then maybe she’d still be in her position.

Interesting that the far right in this country are now putting abortion top of their agenda. Always has been part of it, as my book states, but I wondered when this would start ramping up…
