Eyes on South King County and Seattle. Luddite, shared street, existence is resistance, direct action, dialectical urbanism, buses, trains 🚂 🚌 🌲

In America, where irony is dead, a hotel chain uses a policy denying shelter to local people, for fear of accidentally housing homeless persons…

To deny a reservation to the author of a much-lauded book on how American economic unfairness forces working people into homelessness.
A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

Squandering scarce resources to fund the exurban lifestyle and subsidize the Florida ship building industry.
Governor Bob Ferguson has proposed using the state's debt capacity to pay for new ferries, along with maintenance and preservation on the existing boats. Debt service is already 12% of the state transportation budget, more than WSF's entire budget, and 149% of the state public transit budget.

I did think it was noticeable that Kiewit Construction had zero presence at the Federal Way Link Light Rail opening. It seem every other contractor participated in giving out some type of swag.

“If you don’t want want to go to jail, don’t come to Issaquah to steal

Just another garden variety suburban police department implying all crime is committed from outsiders.

If you want to understand transit prioritization. WSDOT is literally moving earth to open a highway. Meanwhile King County Metro doesn’t seem to have the wherewithal to create a shuttle to serve stops in Auburn south of the flooding (which is a lot)

HAPPENING NOW: A group of protesters have reportedly taken over the intersection on Beacon Hill where someone on a bike was killed by a hit-and-run driver early this morning.

I'm not on the scene yet, but was sent this photo from Beacon Avenue and Stevens Street.

Driving under the influence is a red herring and distraction, even if you eliminated all DUIs vehicular violence would still be the number one public health epidemic in the US.
I think it was a huge mistake to make our society so car-dependent. But man. The Discourse today is a good reminder that when it comes to roadways policy, otherwise progressive anti-car people quickly become some of the most pro-carceral, anti-civil liberties people on the planet.

If this were true why do the wealthy go to endless lengths to connive and concoct new schemes and scams to avoid taxes and hoard wealth.
Michael C. Rockefeller got shipwrecked in 1963, washed up on an island, and was promptly eaten by cannibals.

If fare gates are installed start with Stadium. If workers are being forced to pay so should spectators form the suburbs going to events. They benefit greatly from not having to pay for parking. And the surges they cause strain the system and force extra service be put in place.
"In 2024, 83% of riders were heading to just 10 stations during the AM peak period on weekdays, which could provide Sound Transit with a big opportunity to make gains from a small number of retrofits."
A Sound Transit board motion advanced this week asks for one final look at where fare gates would make sense in the light rail system before implementing a potential pilot program by the end of 2026.

I recently learned that Tesla FSD has “mad max” mode which makes the car drive aggressively and well over the speed limit. How is this legal? And BTW we are restricting the speed of e-bikes?
My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

This is like arresting someone for picking up litter. Seattle has also expended resources to remove guerrilla crosswalks
Jonathan Hale was arrested by LAPD today for painting a crosswalk, even as the city of Los Angeles funnels more money to LAPD and does gymnastics to avoid implementing HLA.

@mayor.lacity.gov, Jonny has made repeated attempts to meet with your office and has been iced out. Angelenos deserve better.

Vision zero failed in the US because car drivers don’t care about people outside of cars.
America’s plan to protect pedestrians failed. A young woman’s death reveals why.
U.S. officials adopted Europe's Vision Zero initiative, but many cities have seen an increase in pedestrian fatalities despite efforts to improve road safety.

HOMELESSNESS IS NOT A DRUG PROBLEM IT'S A HOUSING PROBLEM

I'm so sick of y'all in my mentions with this talking point, just stop.

PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD RENT. Half of renters are paying over 30% of their income on rent, another quarter are paying over 50%!!!

People need homes they can afford!

Same exact reasoning was said about Stephen Miller’s ancestors.

These are also the absolute most ecologically and environmentally destructive neighborhoods in all of Seattle. Massive amounts of polluting pesticides and fertilizers for invasive lawn grass. Huge docks and armored shorelines that OBLITERATE salmon habitat. Absolutely 100% car dependent lifestyles.
Shown in red are where extremists live in Seattle.

Here are what some of these areas look like.

More overwhelming evidence that making the bus free increases ridership.
Take note. Turns out it can be good for government to do things that make people's lives better.
