Justin Webb just referred on Today to "platforms like Bluesky, where you can see the celebration of the killing" of Charlie Kirk.

What I'm seeing on here is overwhelming condemnation; despair at the violence of US politics; alarm at where this might go; & calls for equal horror at other shootings.

Don't set videos to autoplay, only read posts from people you actually follow, and if they post or repost violent videos, stop following them.

There’s a lot of focus on whether super-intelligent AI poses an existential risk. But I’d argue a bigger risk in near future is that a leader makes a very bad decision based on something AI-generated but wrong. In other words, the misperceived intelligence of AI is probably the real risk currently.

Neville Chamberlain sold a state willing to fight, with a modern and mechanised army, and the only democracy in central Europe, down the river for a piece of paper. Claiming Starmer has done something worse than that tells me a lot about your intelligence and morals and none of it is good.

I’ve worked out the Dr Who long arc twist.

Mrs Flood. It’s an anagram, like always. Of course it is. Of “Mrs L Doof”. A reference to the EastEnders Doof Doofs. She is the spirit of cliffhangers, and the whole thing will be about that.

Easy. Just you wait.

Often notice LLM ‘reasoning’ models get in a doom spiral of convincing and reconvincing themselves of nonsense (e.g. erroneous coding approach).

Reminds me a lot of a ‘sticky’ fitting algorithm getting trapped in bad local maximum of parameter space (except without a likelihood to guide ‘truth’).

𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 indulge me in a thread of my Top 10 games of 2024! 🧵

In at 10 is Landlord Quest by indie game auteur Aldous Urper (bsky.app/profile/aldo...) A good RPG but too easy. Your income just accumulates even if you do nothing. Brazenly ignoring major plumbing issues has never been so rewarding.

Being honest here: some of my best memories on the internet were on Twitter and in the last 15 years. I’ve built a lot of relationships there, so I won’t 100% abandon it. But there’s got to be a way to amplify this network and its people
