"Someone who says I am against abortion but I am in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States, I don't know if that's pro-life," the pontiff told journalists outside his residence in Castel Gandolfo.
Pope Leo criticizes 'inhuman' treatment of immigrants in US — Reuters
Pope Leo on Tuesday appeared to offer his strongest criticism yet of U.S. President Donald Trump's hardline immigration policies, questioning whether they were in line with the Catholic Church's pro-l...

Trump's approval rating is still nearly 40%. Think about how fucking ignorant and/or stupid 4 out of every 10 Americans must be.

Trump: "I think it has -- I think it's very bad. They're pumping, it looks like they're pumping into a horse. You have a little child, a little fragile child, and you get a vat of 80 different vaccines, I guess. 80 different blends. And they pump it in. So ideally, a woman won't take Tylenol."

A troubling development in Canadian political "journalism." Good on @lukelebrun.ca for delving into this.

I did a deep-dive into Ben Mulroney's extracurricular activities:

At the same time as Mulroney is filling-in as host of The West Block, he is also working for two registered lobby groups and as an adviser to several companies – some of whose CEOs he's interviewed on Global News 640 Toronto radio

Ben Mulroney is blurring the lines between journalism, business, lobbying and partisan politics

The new host of Global News’ national political news show also works for registered lobby groups, advises businesses and hosted election events for Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives earlier this year

We are moving closer and closer to a situation where this is an unconstitutional government that need not be obeyed.

For what little it's worth, I just canceled our Disney+ subscription. And filled out the 'Other' box to explain why.

If you're an outspoken academic or public commentator, which country is safer to visit: China, or the US?

For the first time in my life, I think it's China.

I think, to David's point, the discussion about media often ignores that there are often (good) reasons why (good) journalists avoid words like "lying" and "illegal."

But I also think there's a conversation to be had about whether journalism needs to be clearer/better.

The challenge is that reporting that something is illegal is a lot like reporting that somebody lied.

You can show that what they said isn't true, but to say they were *lying* requires that you have evidence they knew it wasn't true when they said it.

Who says an action is illegal? The courts.

The president is sending the military to control American cities and if you're a reporter who's framing that illegal power grab as "pushing the boundaries of constitutionality" or "acting boldly to fight crime" or whatever, please go find another line of work where you won't get us all killed.

Good question. Canada should be there.

If all the NATO bigwigs are going to be at this meeting with Trump tomorrow, what does it mean if Carney isn't present? A sign of Canada's irrelevance? Carney deciding now is not the time to enrage Trump at Canada? Or do the Europeans keep Canada's support in their back pocket, until they need it?

I spoke to James Bauder and his lawyer, a Fox News commentator, about his Hail Mary plan to apply for asylum in the United States

Bauder is currently in the US hiding out in an RV park "in the middle of nowhere" booking American media appearances and meeting with MAGA influencers for lunch

NEW: Freedom Convoy founding organizer says he is seeking political asylum in the United States

To avoid his upcoming criminal trial in Canada, James Bauder says he is ‘living in exile’ and enlisting support from Trump allies

Growing anti-immigration sentiment in Canada is almost entirely driven by political leaders. It is not a grassroots-up issue that leaders are begrudgingly responding to. Leaders are whipping up resentment against immigrants, out of nowhere

If you need a mask to enforce the law, you don’t deserve a badge.
Federal agents are snatching people off the streets—faces covered, names hidden.
This isn’t safety. It’s secrecy.
It’s not America.

Of course illegal war is on the table. It's not a threat to American democracy, because there is no longer such a thing. It's a fascist state, through and through.

Most Albertans, including healthcare workers, will now have to pay to get a COVID vaccine.

Danielle Smith promised Albertans would never have to pay out of pocket for the medical treatment they need. She lied.

Such a cruel, dangerous, anti-science, anti-public health decision.

Make it make sense.

Angus: Canada can no longer view the United States as an ally. We know that Donald Trump doesn’t believe in liberal democracy—he doesn’t believe in the rule of law.

Prime Minister Carney is not welcoming the leader of the free world to Canada.

He is welcoming Vladimir Putin’s sock puppet.

Marc Garneau served this country with determination and dignity. I was honoured to serve in Parliament with him. He represented the best of public service.
He flew to space, now it is time to fly to the angels.
