I made haggis by myself for the first time today! They came out perfectly and I’m so happy 🥹

AIPAC spends hundreds of millions buying primaries across the country.

Now they’re trying to buy mine.

“I hate both sides equally,” he tells me as he segues into, “I had to pull my kid out of public schools because there was a kitty litter box in the girl’s restroom in case anyone identified as a cat.” Sir, there is definitely one side you hate more.

Everything is a “war.” Using the word so often is a great way to desensitize it when an actual war occurs. War on protein. War on Christmas. War on Christianity. War. War. War.

So isn’t this just like La Croix, Waterloo, or any of the other countless variants on the market? Capitalism/marketing is strange because all seltzer is non-alcoholic unless otherwise stated.

One of the most useful ideas from The Dictator’s Handbook is essential backers. Remember the photo of the tech oligarchs sitting on the stage of Trump’s inauguration? Their support was essential to his election & subsequently furthering his agenda. 1/

At what point are other countries to say, “fuck oil,” and start shifting to other energy sources (if they haven’t already)? Stealing Venezuelan oil & overthrowing their government in order to bully Cuba more, as if sanctions haven’t damaged them enough, seems shortsighted & pathetic.

I’m picking up a carry out for dinner & was sent these photos. While I patiently wait for food, Archie impatiently awaits my return.

I’m not doing Dry January, but my son has Flu B so thought drinking alcohol wouldn’t be the best choice. I grabbed some NA beers while grocery shopping. Tried 3 so far and they’re all very good. I especially enjoy the Guinness - the flavor profile is nearly identical to the original.

This is insane. Brooks says everyone is too blinded by ideology to see the truth of what the video shows. Then the host asks him what it shows and he refuses to answer.

“Left and right are equally to blame for everything all the time” is also an ideology!

Corgis contain multitudes. Double sploot & double “tucky paws,” in the same night.

I help run one of the only Scottish food businesses in the US. We made a lot of haggis this week in anticipation of Burns Night on January 25. Making haggis, a celebratory & ceremonial delicacy, while turmoil is actively happening across the US seems absurd.

This stunning & delicious treat is a Kimchi Peanut Butter Waffle from Full Measure Brewing in the Eastern Market district of Detroit. It’s available during their weekend brunch service. They make the kimchi & waffle in house. It’s over the top wonderful. The beer is top tier, too. #restaurants

This episode of @citationspod.bsky.social is crucial. The hysteria around “fraud & illegal immigrants,” is connected to Renee Nicole Good. This administration leads w/ paranoia & victim mentality as if the marginalized groups being targeted have any real power. It’s manufacturing consent.
In this News Brief, "How Corporate Media Laid the Groundwork for a Rightwing Incitement Campaign in Minnesota," we detail how CBS, WSJ, NYT promoted an overblown narrative on the "Somali Minnesota fraud" story, teeing up a full blown rightwing incitement campaign.

I bought a 5 pound bag of coffee beans from a local roaster for $67.50 in October. That same bag of coffee is now $92.75. Tariffs are the WORST. It’s more annoying because we can’t even grow coffee in the US.

I need people to wrap their minds around the fact that here in Minneapolis, ICE broke the window of a vehicle yesterday, pepper sprayed the occupants, and arrested them, and shot another observer in the face today, and OBSERVERS ARE STILL GOING OUT TO PROTECT THEIR NEIGHBORS AT MASSIVE PERSONAL RISK
I’m eating lunch, I’m having a panic attack, I’m charging my phone, and then I’m going back out to try and keep my neighborhood safe.

better way to think of this is “20,000 of the dumbest, most violent people in the country currently receive government subsidies for their stupidity and violence. should we continue doing that?”

About a third of the way through “The Dicactor’s Handbook,” and it feels so reductionist. Hopefully as the book continues, the authors will start to speak of historical context but I’m skeptical. The discussion propping up the 2 party system is tenuous at best.

Went to a new restaurant called Beirut Vibes on Sunday. I often say how lucky I feel to live near Dearborn, MI, but when new places like this open and put out fantastic Middle Eastern food, as if we don’t enough already, it makes me even more grateful.
