OK, one big sigh of relief: SCOTUS is not planning to undo marriage equality this year.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court denied an attempt to challenge Obergefell v. Hodges, the case affirming marriage equality nationwide.

Our freedom to marry remains the law of the land.

Reposting Hakeem Jeffries' announcement with ALT-text. I think we should be talking more about how the House will now have to reconvene, which means swearing in Rep. Grijalva, which means a House vote to release the Epstein files. In addition to all the rest of the intrigue.
Please have your media team learn to use ALT-text.

Final round for the first annual #orecup contest. Don't believe the link in the quoted post, which goes to a semifinal round: the final vote is at www.mineralcup.org/vote-results....
I am not going to say who I voted for, because my endorsements would have been the kiss of death in previous rounds.

As we Democrats look for our next Presidential nominee we need to measure against the standard of FDR. With Lincoln in the background.

Democrats didn’t cave. They boxed republicans in and made them own the shutdown. Watch.

Just a little more information about the union-busting or whatever it is at Conde Nast. I haven't yet found a backgrounder that explains what's going on - bought by venture capital? Anybody know? Not conjecture, please, I can do that myself.
I'm one of the four fired employees. I was a writer & producer at Bon Appétit for nearly five years, during which I helped organize our union and sat on our bargaining committee.

I am, to my knowledge, the only trans woman in our union and the only trans woman on editorial who doesn't work at Them
New: Conde Nast fired four employees who were among a group that confronted the company's head of human resources on Wednesday over the decision to fold Teen Vogue into Vogue/recent cuts. Employees who were fired included journalists from the New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appétit.

If a single Supreme Court Justice denies an administrative stay application, the losing party may renew their request to another Justice.

Basically, the stay was getting issued tonight. Jackson issued it on her terms instead of Alito's.

Quick explainer that makes sense to me. This had to play out sooner or later; sooner is better than later, and that's what Justice Jackson did. Good that the appeal is to the First Circuit, which is Justice Jackson's responsibility. She has made it as hard as possible for SCOTUS to affirm Trump.
This is the correct explanation of what happened tonight👇
KBJ threaded the needle thanks to CA1’s unfinished business.

-if she denied the admin stay, the full SCOTUS woulda stepped in to override her.
-if she immediately referred the case to the full Court, they coulda dragged feet.
-instead she boxed them in to act quickly once she does refer the case.

This kitten has already developed a distinct personality, in addition to being killer cute. Go look at the pictures and read the story.
When Fergus passed away we knew we wanted to give a home to another FIV+ cat and when this little man appeared we got that "this is the one" vibe and made it happen with the generous transportation help of @stonkers.bsky.social.

I'm waiting for someone to explain to me in simple words why the USDA is doing this when the DOJ has appealed the court order. I understand that the USDA is obeying the law, good for them, but have they decided the appeal is likely to fail? Did the appellate court not tell them to wait?
fun thing is that it doesn’t matter what the white house hollers about, the usda has a bunch of people at a bunch of levels that would go to jail if they didn’t do this
BREAKING: The USDA tells states funds will be made available later today to pay November SNAP benefits in full.

if someone is willing to pay for the products, i'd be willing to purchase these items, deconstruct them, and give them to expert tailors, shoemakers, and craftspeople for review. i will also see if i can track down the factories. i would be interested to know if these items are made in the US

Jamaal, if you don't remember, is a progressive D who served two terms in the House representing a district that extended from the Bronx into Westchester, but he got primaried in 2024 by a pro-Israel D who was more what Westchester wanted at the time. Good guy, wrong district, glad he's still going.

This is my idea of good journalism. Jennifer Bendery at HuffPost went to the trouble of reporting on the street-level votes that really show the depth of the anger out there. It's not just vibes, there's real evidence.

Q for the musicians, broadly self-defined (performer, composer, student/teacher, careful listener,...): is there any kind of music that you use as background music? Like music to fill the quiet while you read a book or something else? That won't annoy you but you don't have to pay attention 1/2

really important element of this basically total victory is that it puts the fear of god in republican incumbents and may bring the redistricting push to a total halt
