One of the best things about being a slow learner is that there are so many opportunities to notice things that you never noticed before. There's a full moon and snow and the night sky is deep blue, not black. Is that widely known?

I'm generally very much in favor of facts and truth, but we also need a folk hero now and then and Mamdani seems better qualified than most to carry it off.
it's actually a really good political skill that Mamdani convinces people that this is true. I think American politicians, especially dems, really failed/forgot how to slap their names on shit and say that they did, they are why people are benefiting from X etc, even when that isn't strictly true.

Interesting idea, I hadn't heard this suggestion before. If this is offered as part of a compromise deal on ICE I might allow it. With similar conditions on other forms of violence.

If you've been around for a while, you know that one of my incremental positions is that any law enforcement official that fires a gun is automatically done with that job. Doesn't matter why you fired it, you only get to do it once, then you have to go get a real job

This nebbish should go to jail as part of the clean-up. There must be some kind of conspiracy or racketeering charge that covers this kind of coordinated direct frontal assault on the Constitution and the rule of law.

read online that someone set-up a premium rate phone number where callers get charged $3.99/ min. then they posted flyers in their neighborhood that said "call this number to report illegal aliens," but the number just puts them on hold with music. so far, they've made $17,000

I am seeing a lot of this kind of comment from people who appear to know what they're talking about, and my cornered rats hypothesis is holding up to the evidence so far. The theatrical cruelty will get worse as they come to realize that they are going to lose and face a reckoning. But we will win.
Former Texas Lege reporter here. A Dem hasn't held this seat since 1990. Tarrant is the safest of red suburban counties. There is no way the TX and national GOP aren't in panic mode right now.

Middle school in 2026. I will always feel bad for the kids in middle school when covid arrived, they will never fully fit in with their age cohort because their early adolescence got fucked up. The same thing is happening to these kids now, but I don't feel as bad about this mini-generation, 1/2
Younger kid's whole middle school walked out today in solidarity with Minnesota. Apparently there were 13 year olds getting up and making impromptu speeches. They didn't prep a chant in advance, so they settled on "F*ck ICE"

There’s debate about talking to the press tonight. I’ve tried to explain that two things are happening on the ground. Offensive, observing ICE like what Will is doing, and defensive, helping vulnerable people. I am fine if offense talks to responsible press as long as they take precaution.

Ed is my Senator and that makes me damned proud. He doesn't have to be prodded, he knows what public service means.
A Democratic Party that reflected the values of its base would put this into its national platform: "Anyone who supports funding DHS and ICE is supporting the murder of Americans."
Right now, Democrats have the power to defund and abolish ICE. We should do it. This is about right and wrong—and the murder we are seeing on the streets is just plain wrong. Anyone who supports funding DHS and ICE is supporting the murder of Americans. We can stop this.

One thing I love about Bluesky is these little glimpses into the trials that people wrestle with in their day-to-day lives that I am totally oblivious to. It's so true what they say, you never know what someone else is going through.
