i know quite a few people who have worked for or with the BBC and it's really quite distressing how all this yapping about shit at this level undermines the work people are actually doing for what we get to see, watch and hear every day

Never occur to most of these rich weirdos to just take a walk around Tokyo, or wherever
The biggest tell that someone is a dullard is having no favorite bands or movies or some form of entertainment. It's how you know those "grindset" types are the dumbest fucks on the planet. They have no interests. They are literally the NPCs they bitch about. You're a cog in the shit machine
The JCO post about Elon not liking anything is something I've said before about a lot of politics poisoned posting addicts. People who never once post about a band they like or anything at all. There are so many like that.

I think part of the reason Musk is so meme coded is that it allows him to have contact with a popular medium he knows *nothing* about and has no mental capacity to engage with beyond "funny image hahaha".

This is also how come techbro grindset types believe so easily that AI can replace artists and creatives. Art and narrative are just meaningless lights and sounds to them.

You cannot separate the current nightmare we now inhabit from the collapse/crisis in how rich, powerful middle-aged men perceive masculinity, especially their own insecurities.
I’m sorry, but a goofy looking guy who grew up a privileged son of a pediatrician and has a phd in social theory from the university of Goethe and started in tech by investing an inheritance left to him by his grandfather talking about being a “dude” is very, very funny to me.

It is, & it’s too moderate. For example: only 24 top Nazis were tried at Nuremberg. Everyone involved in horrendous abuses such as those reported in the thread below should be tried, down to the lowliest prison guard. The “Nuremberg defence” – “I was only obeying orders” – must be disallowed.
Nuremburg trials is the moderate position
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

I've been thinking about Warren Zevon. He's all over Sandman Slim. Here are 3 important songs.
DISORDER IN THE HOUSE is about Stark’s entire wild and messy life.
KEEP ME IN YOUR HEART is Stark’s song to Candy when he’s gone.
For me, DESPERADOS UNDER THE EAVES is the best song ever written about LA.

Last night, Warren Zevon was finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His work was a big influence on Sandman Slim and there are a lot of very obvious references to his work in the last couple of books. Warren also wrote my favorite song about LA.

It seems like this 50 year mortgage thing is spiritually similar to the UKs “leasehold” property buying, where you “buy” but the landowner’s family gets the property back after 100 years. Dynasty protection.

Something I’ve noticed is there seems to be a sort of pervasive assumption that the status quo has gravity. That there’s a natural, comfortable way things should be and that deviations from the normal state of the world will correct themselves in time.
But as a paleontologist, I know this is false.

If you care about US manufacturing, then you'll be glad to hear the coat was cut and sewn in Rochester, NY at a company that has been around since 1899. This is a unionized workforce with immigrants from around the world, some of whom have been with the factory for 50+ years.

The fabric carries the official Harris Tweed trademark, which means it was fully made in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The fleece was sourced from local sheep; the fibers carded, spun, and dyed in the area; and the fabric handwoven in one of the small shacks by local weavers.
