A positive note: The 1980s Coastal Barrier Resources Act made “3.8 million acres of barrier islands ineligible for federal flood insurance, discouraging development. Studies since show that has saved taxpayers close to a billion dollars a year.”

Can the war on coal still be won?
Ten years ago, the U.S. was on track to phase out coal by 2030, thanks to the Sierra Club. Now Trump and AI are delaying the fuel’s decline.

This phenomenon, where red states use far more electricity per capita than blue states, has been know for 40 y, as shown by Evan Mills and Art Rosenfeld in 1987:

This is the conclusion reached by @ethz.ch researchers on the basis of new calculations. Efforts to reduce carbon emissions should therefore continue at pace"

The tax rate on electricity used in industry is much higher in most European countries than the tax rate on fossil gas.

Trump says we have to throw 15 million Americans off healthcare and significantly raise ACA premiums because we don’t have enough money.

But somehow we have $20 billion to bailout the right-wing regime of Argentina?

We can’t let that happen.
The U.S. is in talks to provide Argentina with a $20 billion swap line to help contain financial upheaval and support President Javier Milei’s free-market overhaul, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.
