The president's gutter racism aside, Minnesota (like California, Illinois, and New York) is also a "donor state," contributing approx. $50 billion more to federal coffers in FY 2024 than it took in. The lion's share of this difference comes from economic hubs, cities like Minneapolis.
The president is all-but encouraging pogroms against specific Somali-owned businesses, on the grounds that they serve customers who pay in food stamps (much like countless Walmarts in heavily Republican rural areas)

There is nothing stopping elected Dems from focusing on both affordability AND accountability. They can even be related topics (see @aoc.bsky.social's contrasting of ICE's budget to healthcare cuts)! Unless, hypothetically of course, they don't actually care about the administration's lawlessness.
NEW: Kristi Noem is facing by far the most credible impeachment effort of Trump's 2nd term. Some House Dems are fuming.

"Noem is just soup du jour," one told @axios.com. "It's all performative bullsh*t."

Centrists say they want to focus on affordability. www.axios.com/2026/01/14/k...
"Performative bullsh*t": Some Democrats fume as Kristi Noem impeachment gains steam
"There's a frustration with all these impeachments," said one House Democrat. "Noem is just soup du jour."

This. I am done returning to the status quo of what got us here. I want universal healthcare. I want a maximum wage tied to the minimum wage. I want omnipresent, cheap public transit and walkable neighborhoods. I want Supreme Court and police reform, and I want the rich to pay their fair share.
We need to pick up this Overton Window and throw it as far as we can. Stop waiting for shit to “be popular” and start advocating for what is transparently right.

People don't want to accept that the primary reason that we have Trump today is that the previous administration completely failed. It should have never gotten to the point where it was in the so-called hands of the voters. It was already too late by then.

Apropos of nothing, the State of California contributed roughly $267 billion more to the federal government than it took from the federal government in FY 2024. New York contributed approximately $76 billion more than it took in that same period, and Illinois $63 billion.

If you're not willing to arrest the killer, don't arrest the demonstrators.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 29 people were arrested in downtown last night during a noise demonstration at a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents: "For those that are taking the bait and causing property damage or otherwise, there are consequences. We're holding the line here all the way."

If you are anxious and sad about the state of the world, that's fine, and there are plenty of strategies for dealing with that. But I think you already know that drive-by online dooming isn't a strategy. It's selfish and adolescent. It's a contagion that only spreads the worst of you, not the best.

The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same
