“Good idea, poorly executed” could be this government’s strategic tagline.
Keir Starmer doing an email newsletter is a good idea, but the execution needs a complete overhaul:

“I’m only watching/listening because she’s awful” .

Yes, because advertisers famously only pay if the consumer is clicking approvingly.

Brilliant choice of Misha Glenny for In Our Time! He interviewed me at the Vienna Humanities festival a few weeks ago and he had the perfect wide-ranging interests and intelligence. As a fan of IOT I am cheering. www.bbc.com/mediacentre/...

Think this is exactly right - political journalism that is completely abstracted from policy, which was not the norm before 2017, has become the default. Impossible to have a serious attempt to either shrink what the state does or widen the tax base (have to do at least one) on that basis.
All this budget news, claims, counter claims is confusing, but two things of consequence.

1. We're all talking about that, not any financial benefits (or losses) of the budget.

2. Yet more focus on the very weird few weeks and politics of it all. Starting to feel dangerously like a norm.

It does feel like half the stories in the UK press only make sense if you follow Enoch1488, a peadophile on twitter who they have decided is the voice of True Working Class Brits
At some point the media’s view of their jobs changed from holding politicians accountable to active scalp hunting over relatively nothing. They’re trying to use a relentless drum-beat of less than honest narrative creation to try and force resignations in a way they never did before.

When did broadcasters stop mentioning which party select committee chairs represent when interviewing them? If you didn’t know, you’d think they were independent commentators, and they’re just not.

I completely accept many are v good at chairing inquiries, but they’re still sitting party MPs.

I guess it’s a compliment that the top story on BBC London’s TV/online output today is a direct lift of a month-old London Centric story? But once again the BBC is consistently the worst news outlet for actually remembering to credit others.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a PR piece that clashes so dramatically with my experience. My IRL discussions & social timelines are full of how deeply weird, off-putting and cultish the junkets are: interesting to feel so differently from the “voice” of PR.
