Going absolutely mental by this issue of my Wacom Cintiq blue-screening my pc. Reinstalled drivers, rolled back drivers, replaced cables, tried different ports, cleaned out registry, temp files, checkdisks etc. Checked the cintiq itself by plugging into other pc, issue doesn't occur there

That's right. It's time for part 3 of the FPS series; this time, a lot of assorted thoughts on what makes for good enemy design. This one was fun as hell to write.

building a better first person shooter part 3: enemy mine
So! First, we talked about a specific subgenre of first person shooter, loosely starting with Unreal and Half-Life and dying off around…

I would just watch Jen Zee do art for an hour.
games people, if you could talk to a game developer about their craft for an hour, who would it be, and what would you ask them about?

With October coming to a close things really escallated quickly. We now know of so many games industry layoff waves in 2025 that we're only one short of matching 2024, and we have two months still to go.

Honestly I'd need a pretty modest budget to build HANA. More budget just means I could pay more friends tbh.

The speed at which governmental institutions are gleefully going all-in on genLLM bs is so incredibly worrying to me.

The speed at which it's infecting all aspects of public life will ensure maximum damage when the bubble pops.

Ok ok this one might have been a bit pretentious, here's one better:

The only thing harder than solving a puzzle is designing a puzzle.
I thinks Bartle's taxonomy of gamers and MDA framework's Aesthetics both do admirable attempts at describing why different players vibe with different (parts of) games but designing specific experiences will always be a question of feeling it out and testing with many different players.
What's your number one personal game design principle? And even better - does it have a cool name?
