THE HOUSEMAID = perfect Christmas Day viewing. Callback to preposterous erotic thrillers of the 1990s, with Sydney Sweeney & Amanda Seyfried on top form. Small cinema was packed, but fun watching with audience clearly digging it. (Frail sensibilities should be aware it gets gnarly towards the end.)

Thanks to @screendrafts.bsky.social for finally pushing me to see A NEW LEAF. A shaggy film with a comedic calibration set so precisely that all evidence of studio tampering and editing barely register.

Sydney Sweeney drives people insane on the internet, but for those of us in the trenches, watching her prolific work on TV and in the movies, she's a fascinating (and sometimes quite good) star. Grateful to @ezwrites.bsky.social for this excellent deep dive: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/21/m...

The Housemaid - The Film Verdict
Soapy, glossy trash delivered with wit, style, and indelible performances makes for a satisfyingly old-fashioned thriller with bite.

Here’s some Golden Age Black Cat for your Saturday before Christmas. This is The Original Black Cat No 3 from 1988, a collection of Golden Age stories of the Harvey Comics character.

If you're not trans, I don't think I can fully explain how important this is.

It's so powerful that one of the most circulated science media publications in the world has come out and said "trans children are real and providing transition care improves their lives." That's groundbreaking.
The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

And it didn't just happen once! Star Trek in the nineties also had a trans-coded character everyone respected and gendered correctly!

This whole streaming audio directly into my hearing aids is a game-changer. I've listened to more music, more podcasts (Screen Drafts and the like, relax) which is awesome. But it's also adding a fuck ton of movies and books to my que and I simply do not have the time or the funds.

Bumping this one last time. Need $400 more to cover the room for the upcoming week and need it by tomorrow morning!
We’ve made it on the storage part of the campaign, but I still need to raise $650 to cover the room for the upcoming week. Any dollar helps, but so does just sharing this post or the fundraiser link! Thank you all so much!!!
On 12/18, the storage unit my girlfriend and I packed our whole lives into last year will be auctioned off. I’m trying to prevent that from happening. I’ve made a Spotfund and outlined the situation there. If you have a moment, please read and share the link below.

Wait, is this frowned upon?
Yet, it was Professor Irwin Corey, The World's Foremost Authority, that made it iconic, however.

Finally caught up with ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, and aside from everything else, it must be said, Benicio del Toro all but walks away with the movie. An impressive feat when you consider how much EVERYONE is bringing their A-game.

I got drastically overdrafted over the weekend before my first deposit from the fundraiser hit me today, so I had to adjust the goal to account for it. I’m only $200 away from completing the storage part of the campaign! Anything helps, even just sharing the posts. Thank you!

This is purely anecdotal but, as someone who lives in a small rural town, it has never felt less like Christmas than it has this year.

I quite like David Michod as a director and CHRISTY was obviously gonna fail given that its sell-by date expired maybe 25 years ago, but there's a legible HOOSIERS quality to it that's comfortable like an old terry cloth robe. Which is kind of my way of saying HOOSIERS sucks but I've seen it often.
